One ACL disruption and another partial tear. Don't remember which knees. Right knee complete 2008 though.

What do you think the prognosis is for recovery and return to football? Aren't repaired ACLs typically stronger than originals, similar to Tommy John surgery?

Lee took a really bad angle and stop to engage Zack and that first round draft pick just pancaked him to the ground.
Nobody is to blame, it was just a bad move on Sean Lees' part.

Yes. In general that's true. If they have to, they will drill a hole in the femur and put a cadaver tendon thru it then drill a hole in the tibia and attach the tendon there. This is a stronger attachment than the normal insertion of the tendon into the tibia. They can still tear though.

Love the guy, but gotta move on now....the ONE good thing about moving on is perhaps the 315 threads dedicated to Lee will start to dwindle

I think we are all just frustrated with this guy. It's like owning a Porsche that is always sitting in the garage and being fixed.

Yeah, you're right. He only sprained that knee. He blew out the other one the year before that.

According to this info I pulled from ESPN, that looks right.

2014 (Cowboys): Projected to miss 16 games. Suffered ACL injury
2013 (Cowboys): Missed five games. Suffered hamstring injury Nov. 10 at New Orleans, missed two games; Suffered neck injury Dec. 9 at Chicago, missed three games.
2012 (Cowboys): Missed 10 games. Suffered toe injury Oct. 21 at Carolina.
2011 (Cowboys): Missed one game. Suffered a partially dislocated wrist Oct. 30 at Philadelphia, missed one game but returned and played most of the season with a cast/club for protection.
2010 (Cowboys): Missed two games. Hamstring injury.
2009 (Penn State): Missed three games with sprained knee.
2008 (Penn State): Missed his senior season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in non-contact drills in spring practice.

Give everyone a few days to grieve and the like. Then it'll be back to business as usual.

That doesn't look good. My goodness it might be time to retire.

I hear ya, but I am almost at the point where I see a "lee" thread and I just won't go in there...and, there are so many that they are taking up about 80% of the board....thus, perhaps it is time to stay away for a while until it subsides (it's getting old to me)

There's no way of knowing that. He's had more than his share of problems but torn ACLs are not wear and tear items. Each injury is a separate instance. These comments about him breaking down etc are not medically sound. They often use cadaver or tendon transplant to repair these injuries so you can't even make the argument some are due to 'weak' tissues.

Well, he snapped both of his original equipment ACL's w/o contact, so he is somehow independently putting more stress on the joint than it is able to bear. You got to believe that Sean is diligent in his fitness regimen, so he either has structural deficiencies in his knees relative to the rest of his body, or he has technique issues, and the latter seems somewhat implausible.

I agree with the first part. I wrote earlier this week I believed some players could stop, pivot while planted, etc with more force than some other players and as a result they tend to tear their ACLs. I have no data to support that view. It is just my own opinion. If you wanted to argue with me that players fit on a Bell shaped curve as to the strength and integrity of their ACLs with those on the low left side being those who tear their ACL's more frequently. I would say there is no empiric evidence (since you can't measure the tensile strength in vivo...ethically) but I would agree with you. If you argue those individuals have a 'structural' abnormality then ok with that, too. You're just way out of a limb with no data to support you.

As far as technique this is often either a planting issue with deceleration and/or a pivot. People step off curbs and tear it. So I wouldn't call it technique but merely performing a function of stopping and/or changing direction which is inherent to football.
