Their refusal to use him more than they do speaks for itself. He's slow and sorely unable to get open in his routes and inadequate as a blocker. (jmo)

Because they want Witten on the field (or Romo wants him on the field). And Hannah for his blocking.

That may be true to some extent but if Escobar were all they had hoped for in the passing game, he would be sharing the receiving duties to a greater extent with Witten. In actuality, it appears to me that Escobar's inability to get open is seriously impeding his usefulness as a receiver. Unfortunately, Escobar will also very likely never be the blocker that the staff would prefer him to be. I'm pretty sure it's no accident that Escobar is used sparingly to such an extreme. He simply isn't what they envisioned when they drafted him in round two.

He shouldn't of been a second round pick because this coaching staff has failed to incorporate a second TE. Funny how guys have left and had productive NFL careers.

Most literature says 6 month recovery time but I know most dont feel comfortable until well after that.

Excellent point. I've had that injury and overcoming the mental part of just trusting it again is a battle. You're afraid to go all out on the things you used to do for awhile.

For some reason we don't use our best weapons on offense enough...I almost forgot we had Escobar what a beast. Romo isn't smart enough to realise he has to pass the ball to Dez and Escobar more.

Why are you still around troll?

I don't know that I'd blame Romo, Escobar has to actually be on yhe field for Romo to have a chance to throw at him, he's rarely on the field.

Your claim was he has been in jeopardy of losing his roster spot from the beginning. There has not been a threat that would keep him off the roster in any year before this.

I agree that he hasn't been what we hoped for. I think that mainly is the fault of the coaching staff. When you draft guys for a specific purpose, then change from that it's more a failure of the team rather than of the player. We were supposedly committing to the two TE offense like the Patriots run but have never stuck with it.

That's the issue. This is Tony Romo's offense. On the field, he runs the show. And he wants Witten on the field because he trusts him. Romo knows where he is going to be every time. And Witten will not go off on third down. Or any other down for that matter as long as he can walk.

Guys like Fasano and Bennett had to go elsewhere to have an NFL career. Escobar may have to as well. Perhaps by the time Geathers is ready, Witten will be retired. If not, he won't get a fair shake either.

Churning TE's under Witten will continue until Witten retires.

I'm sure you could have put down a similar scouting report to all the TE's we've trotted in here that went on to be productive pros.

Escobar has more than enough athleticism and skill to be an asset on a team that decides to utilize him.

He's not Tony Gonzalez by any stretch, but the idea that he's only got 24 catches for 303 yards is some kind of definitive assessment on his ability is false. It's an assessment of our idiotic misutilization of quality resources on players we have no earthly idea what to do with.

The problem I see for any TE beyond Witten are two fold. 1) Linehan seems to prefer the 11 package with Beasley on the field. 2) Elliott will get a lot passes thrown his way. He is an excellent receiver out of the backfield. That does not leave a whole lot of touches for backup TEs.

Escobar stayed this long only because he was a 2nd round pick and as such, they take forever to get booted on the Cowboys. If he had been taken much in a considerably later round as he should have, he'd already be gone.

Let's just drop Escobar and let him shine elsewhere...watching his highlights he looks like a wide receiver despite his 4.80 speed.
