I think we keep Spears and Bowen. I liked Hatcher coming out of LSU but he hasn't done much since he got here. Bowen is a good rotation guy.

I also think we need a better option behind Ratliff IMO.

I'm thinking we convert Carpenter to DE. I mean, if he can't get off a block, maybe that means he can not get off the block while clogging the gap. :laugh2:

Keep Bowens and Hatcher because they will be cheap and resign Spears unless he gets some crazy deal.

Resign Spears if he is willing to go for a reasonable contract. The other two depend on the FA market and how they project the draft will line up.

yea I think we can find one threw FA or draft one - that is Rat back up

Johnny Jolly FA

Boo Robinson, Wake Forest 2-3.

Ekom Udofia, Stanford
Height: 6-2. Weight: 311.
Projected 40 Time: 5.12.
Projected Round (2009): 4-5.
2/14/09: Playing nose tackle for the Cardinal, Ekom Udofia had 29 tackles and a TFL.

8/1/08: A mammoth of a defensive tackle who contributed in a rotational role last year. He had to miss the final portion of the 2007 campaign with a fractured ankle. In 2006, Udofia was named to the Freshman All-American third team

Kellen Heard, Texas A&M
Height: 6-6. Weight: 345.
Projected 40 Time: 5.31.
Projected Round (2010): FA.
5/19/09: Won't be back with the team for undisclosed reasons.

2/14/09: In 10 games, Kellen Heard had 17 tackles and broke up a pass. He also ate four quarterbacks, but I don't think that's an official stat.

7/30/08: A monstrous space-eater and run-stuffer, Kellen Heard will get more playing time as a junior with Red Bryant off to the NFL.

Don't think Spears is high priority. I wouldn't be upset if they let him walk. But I also wouldn't be upset if he were resigned.

I like Bowen. Would like to see him resigned. Not sure about Hatcher though.

Spears probably all depends on the money, but surely we finally draft a DL high next year. It's about time.

Bowen Olshansky and Ratliff will be starters in 2010.

Spears and Hatch gone.

Unless the CBA gets extended, Marcus Spears (1st rd), Jason Hatcher (3rd rd) and Stephen Bowen (CFA) will all become restricted free agents next off-season.

So no one will leave unless we really want them to.

We can tender Spears and Hatcher at original entry level and Bowen at the second round level.

If a team wants them for that, we will probably let any walk for compensation.

But it rarely happens, I expect all back next year (though I'm still waiting on Hatcher to come around).

Spears only if it's reasonable, no big money at all for him. Bowen, hopefully, he seems to have what it takes and plays with determination and spirit. Hope he doesn't demand too much on the FA market.

I'd like to keep Bowen. He always seem very servicable every time he's in. There really isn't that much dropoff between him and Spears IMO.

Look for Vince Oghobaase. 6"6 DT/DE from Duke. He'd be a really nice pickup in the third.

Also wouldn't mind signing a Johnnie Jolly,Fred Robbins or Gabe Watson.

Not crazy about the idea of Bowen starting. He's very serviceable in his role as a rotational backup, but we have no idea what he would do as a full-time starter. He's USUALLY in the game in pass-rushing situations so who knows how he would hold up as a starter. I think we'll make an offer to Spears but won't pay the barn to make sure he's back.

I saw Vince Oghobaase. 6"6 DT/DE from Duke the other day - I don't think the boy had one tackle - and I was high on him also

may get him in the 5 or 6 they way he played
