Spears? and Canty?

I believe both players will be alright, I feel that they just need to get into the weight room and get stronger for the playoffs, lose a couple of pounds of fat, and work on their stanima, they'll be just fine.

These players are good but is not being coached up to good right now. I feel that it's the coaching that got alot to do with our success on defense. I feel the defensive cordinator that we have in Zimmer is running out of things to do with the 3-4, my only question is why did Bill Parcells keep Zimmer if he knows he a 4-3 Defensive Cordinator. I surely do hope we get Dick LeBeau if Cowher leaves. But it might be Cowher who takes over the Dallas Cowboys but I would rather Jimmy Johnson to do it.

Keep Terrell Owens and get Randy Moss(Wishful Thinking). It's time for us to get back to our winning ways. I feel that one of these backs, either Julius Jones or Marion Barber should take 70% of the carries.

Why were Parcells and Jones(and presumably, Ireland) so insistent that they had to have him as an end in the 3-4?

He had a shot at Garcia yesterday, but ended up wallowing, like a beached whale, on the play when Ware looked injured.

Two DT's being asked to play end. Neither have the top end speed or burst to play end. Neither have the first step to disengage from blockers and rush the QB from the DT position. Both are big and strong, but need to get even stronger. Long term Canty will be better if he can learn to get down lower to get better leverage. Spears I'm not sure about.

Sarge this is the first stupid thing I thing I have ever seen you say on here. He is not fat. He needs to have the weight in the 3-4 system and you know that. And he is definately not lazy. He fought thru injuries, bulked up with mostly muscle, and is a very productive run stuffer. He was never a pass rusher, even in college. His image is a product of Zimmer. I haven't given the rally call lately, but here it is. G.R.O.Z.

Perhaps you can point out where I said he was fat. I said he was LAZY.....and he is and he always has been. There is nothing that makes me believe that that will change in the future. I see it now, I saw it while played at LSU.

I hope you're right and I hope I'm wrong but I don't know what you and some others are seeing in Spears. He does nothing for me. I don't see him turning the corner. He has god given talent and size and doesn't get the most out of it - - never has.

Like I said, hopefully - I'm wrong about this........

bu bu bu bu busts.... I usually give players a few years before I'll label them that, but these guys were drafted for their athleticism. Canty is 6'7 why not try to bat down a pass after you get dominated at the line of scrimmage? Spears was a first round pick, I'd hate to see some of the names that were drafted right after him.

While I would like to think of Spears as having the ability to be an effective player for us, however...I haven't seen anything out of Spears that gives me reason to hope for much more out of him than what we've seen up to this point. Canty has more potential/ability than Spears, IMO.

Spears was a 4-3 DE at LSU and a playmaker. He didn't dominate his guy, but he make athletic plays and was a leader by example.

His athleticism, the biggest reason he ended up a first round draft pick, is nullified by his being a 3-4 DE. Totally. Now he's had to bulk up to get any kind of edge inside and has become a JAG as a result. A waste of a first round draft pick-- for us I must emphasize-- he could have been a good player on any team with a 4-3 defense. There's a chance he could still become a good player, but it will not be because of what made him good in college, and IMO that's a waste of pedigree.

I think Canty'd be fine as a 4-3 DE, but as it stands now he needs to study tapes of Leon Lett. He's 6'7" and was about 280 when he entered the league which is fine for a 4-3 DE. But in a 3-4 he plays tall, so inside he gets jacked up unless he's all hunched over which is a manner he's not used to playing. There's a shot this guy could get it together and be the penetrating DL we need him to be. With Ware behind him it could change a lot for us if he came through. But it's not going to happen this year.
