Whats really weird is that I never remember us spelling Emmitt early in his career at all but I guess we did because he only averaged 24 carries 1 time in his career.

Zeke is averaging 22.3 and it seems we are resting him 3-4 series a game although yesterday I don't think we sat him for a whole drive like we have in past games.
Once those 90s teams became dominant some games were over by the 4th qtr, so he got his rest and his backups were average at best. A lasting image to me was Emmitt on the sidelines with his shoulder pads off and baseball hat on enjoying his days work.

Someone put a missing person alert for Lance Dunbar and Darius Jackson.

Them dudes are MIA in our backfield.
Lance got one carry, lol. But right now, he might give us more than Morris. Dude has fallen off a cliff.

I haven't heard Jackson's name at all because I can't recall him even being on the field this season as for Dunbar he at least got one TD against Washington in week 2 but you're right that's about it.

This is something I'm definitely concerned about, especially since he's also a rookie and is about to reach the point where he's playing more games in a season than he ever had to in college. He hasn't gone through that December/January grind yet so his body may not be prepared.

There's been a marked difference in the offense when Zeke is out of the lineup. Morris hasn't provided a spark since about week 2. Maybe that's why Jerry's talking about activating McFadden from NFI? Personally, I'm tired of the 'scheduled' series that Morris has been getting. He and the offense do little to nothing when he's out there. And Dunbar hasn't shown much either. Either way, there's currently a huge drop off.
Yes I too am not impressed with Morris at this point and maybe his best days are behind him and he did have iirc a 2TD day against his old team in week 2 but his best day yardage wise was against the Browns other than that not very much.

Morris is the type of back that needs a bunch of carries to get in a rhythm, sorta like Zeke. We need a change of pace back and Run DMC might be it. Dunbar is too fragile IMHO.

That's what makes Darius Jackson so intriguing. On paper, he is as fast as Dunbar, and as big as Zeke. He seemed to play well in pre-season. Maybe he cannot blitz pickup yet, but he seems like what you get in a lab if you cross Dunbar and McFadden.

Just a question, not trying to flame anyone. But if we get up in some of these games, should we be trying to spell Zeke a lil more to try and save those legs for a playoff run? After all, we do have a pretty decent crop of backup backs. Just some opinions please.

did zeke look a little slower to you or was it just the ravens?

It's not the carries as much as it is the length of the season. Rookies have been used to playing 10 to 12 games a season and now here they are playing at a much higher level with at least 16 games. For Zeke it will be more than 16 games covering more than 22 weeks if you were to include preseason games.

Historically, it has been a legitimate concern, it would be nice to give him a little more rest but I understand the need for the team to play at their best and that would have to include Zeke in there.

With that said, is there any reason not to activate McFadden? The guy should be fresh and he knows the O-line, he was a thousand yard rusher last season, why the wait? The Cowboys should try to end the season with all guns blazing.

He's too raw. He needs more seasoning. Maybe next year, with a full off-season of QB schools and film sessions he could be the backup.

At 9-1 I don't change a thing but my jock strap. Off season is the best time for spelling. Zeke doesn't strike me as the type who even bruises.

I don't know. He takes way too many hard shots to the thighs!

Media drama?

IMO he is not being overused or do not think there should a concern. Now this does not mean the team should not be mindful of his carries but his current pace is fine.

He has less than 25 carries in 7 games. People are worried about 3 games where is exceeded 25 carries?! Really?!

Giants: 20 carrries, 1 rec
Skins: 21 carries, 2 rec
Bears: 30 carries, 2 rec
49ers: 23 carries, 1 rec
Bengals: 15 carries, 3 rec
Packers: 29 carries, 2 rec
Eagles: 22 carries, 4 rec
Browns: 18 carries, 1 rec
Steelers: 21 carries, 2 rec
Ravens: 25 carries, 4 rec
Sounds about right for any featured RB in the league.

320 carries a year is tough for anyone. I would rather them spot a guy in for one or two plays instead of going a whole series or two without Zeke.

I like McFadden much more as a backup than Morris or Dunbar. HE is a threat as a runner or as a pass catcher, is a good pass blocker. When Morris is in, it's pretty much always a run because we don't like him in pass pro and he is a mediocre receiver. His lack of speed and burst shows when compared to Zeke.

ABSOLUTELY. Lost in the hysteria of a big win was Zeke getting pounded yesterday and looking gassed to me. He is still 21 years old. He has never played 16 games plus playoffs. We must be careful trying to win the battle and lose the war. We NEED him late in the season and late in games during the playoffs. He needs help NOW.
