Would be nice to have a known commodity back but I think you could find someone like him at this point.

the fact we are still discussing Spencer and Cowboys tells me Jerry Jones has failed this defense. For love of everything green, yellow and purple can we move on from Anthony "I can barley move laterally" Spencer.

He was catching Russell Wilson in space last year. You don't do that when you have no agility.

It was his first time playing DE full time in 6 years. Ware was the one that was allowed to sell out one gap against the run but Spencer stacked the edge and played the shed game most of the time. He constantly got turned around trying to head upfield against the rush last season. That was discombobulation more than lack of agility to my eyes.

He likely wants to go to a 3-4 team which is understandable.

Good ole Spencer. Practically raped this team all the years he was here.

Wut? He was a value for us every season other than the year they franchised him because they didn't want him signing a huge deal elsewhere.

The guy's at the point in his career where he's got to consider all his options. He's probably got a position here in Dallas in most likely scenarios here this offseason, but you never know. He's a player who's not going to get much more than the vet minimum anyway, so if he can get some insurance or some leverage by keeping is options open, he ought to do it.

'Almost Anthony' might not have stunned us with his sack totals the way that Demarcus Ware did (as if Ware's been some variation of chopped liver) - but he was pretty consistent with the 'QB Pressures'.

Yep. It's another case of people confusing the best case scenario for a draft pick with the more likely scenario. In the scheme of things, Anthony Spencer was a hit as a first round pick.

At least they didn't sign him to a long term deal, or he would be on the Cowboys cap a long time.

That makes it sound like there were only two options. There were a lot of better players than him availabe that year and for less money. This front office perplexes me.

He just needs to go away. They need to cut the cord. This waiting around for him to duplicate his one good season again is stopping progress.

Spencer overall is a disappointing pick to me. Never lived up to the dominant pass rusher we needed opposite Ware during his prime year. People point to the stats and say well he was ranked ____ against the run but just going on the EYE test he never consistently impressed me outside of one year, which if im not mistaken was a contract year. Magnify that by his "I didnt go all out" comments a few years ago, hit the road.

Think of it this way.. There were alot of people who lamented the Spencer pick and wanted Lamar Woodley, the Steelers pick. The Steelers cut him and he's now been waived by his 2nd team post-release...and he's STILL counting as $8m+ dead money on their salary cap.

Spencer wasn't a flashy pick, but I think he was a solid overall player. At this point, and with his noted injury woes, if the Cowboys can upgrade his position, they should. If he returns in a backup/depth type role, then that's okay with me, too.

You better go re-watch that Detroit game in the playoffs. He dominated the game and I believe that qualifies for "The Stretch"

No, he did not dominate the game. He came on late in the game. Even so, the stretch run doesn't end at the divisional level. He couldn't lay a finger on a hobbled Aaron Rodgers. For all the criticism the refs get for overturning the Dez catch, the real story of that game was the defensive line's ineffectiveness against a wounded Aaron Rodgers. The Cowboys offense played well enough to win, given the environment. We needed something from our defense. Spencer, being a first-round draft choice and a veteran, should be making more of an impact down the stretch. When we needed him most, he didn't deliver. So if he leaves, I won't shed one tear.

If they let Spencer go we will be sorry. Right now we have only Mincey as a proven player outside although I think Lawrence will be solid or better. I don't get all the Spencer hate. Stop listening to people and watch the tape. When he is healthy there are few SDEs who are better. He's just getting healthy.

I expect 5-6+ sacks from the guy this year and continued stellar play against the run.

I'll catch grief for this but when he was well AND Ware was not playing the run, he was the better end OVERALL.
