We'll see him at a bargain or up against Tyron Smith.

There's no opting out of IR. The only option left for Spencer is whether to be operated upon or not. Other than that, he's destined to sit out the year and hope he's able to return to playing football again at some point. I can't help but think it'll be for another team. His time with the Cowboys has never proven to be a bargain, I'm afraid, although I'll wish him well in his recovery and in playing for another team.

Frankly..

He is another of the players who have dramatically underachieved while taken so high in the draft.

Last year was his only decent return on the investment IMO.

So you give him some Mega Deal.

Please no more cap killing deals.

We have had too many of those.

I dont think he dramatically underachieved. I dont think he is worth is last year's or current salary though. I doubt seriously he will be in a Cowboy's uniform next year. Heck if he decides not to get surgery he might not be wearing any uniform. I think he just figured out that he doesnt really have a body of work for this year to sell himself with after the season.

the surgery is a risk. waiting is also a risk. this takes a long time to recover from so if he plans to play next year then he won't have a lot of time to try other treatments. he is gone for the year and he is done in dallas. he also may be the most underrated player we've had in years. i think fans really under value what he has done here because they only read one stat on the stat sheet.

If he's facing microfracture surgery, his career is in the balance. I can't recall anybody in sports who has been even close to their previous level of play afterward. It's usually last ditch. His worry is well beyond playing (that ship has sailed anyway when he went on IR).

alot of guys have had it and returned. i beleive colston had it and he is playing fine. the younger you are the better chance of recovering anything close to your former self. in the nba lots of guys have had it and returned. with spencer the age is the biggest issue

Amount of damage also, and his sounds like more of a partial thing which is why he has some alternatives.

Wasnt that pretty much the end of Terry Glenn here? Not saying that has any bearing on this case, I know there are varying degrees of this surgery, just wondering.

We all know Spencer is done for at least this year. His future with the club was not certain at the start of the season and less so now. I do think the Cowboys would be interested in having him remain but I think it comes down to what Spencer and Woy are asking for.

To me, I think this injury makes him more likely to return next year. I mean, if he can physically. The only way he was leaving Dallas was with a nice multi year deal somewhere else. That's not happening now.

Which is why Jerry's leaving the door open for him to return. After tagging him two years in a row, now he can be had for a much more reasonable cost.
