So what's the word on Spencer's play through 5 games? Has he played well enough to hold the starting position even though Ellis is getting healthier and healthier? I haven't been able to watch all the games so I have an incomplete picture of Spencer's overall play thus far.....

Ellis hasn't been asked to drop into coverage and got limited snaps against Buffalo. Spencer looks to have locked up the position but will rotate with Ellis to keep him fresh.

Keep it like it is. Let Spencer play base OLB and Ellis play nickel/dime DE. It keeps them both fresh and plays to both of their strengths.

I'm not as worried about Spencer getting to the QB, I figure that'll come w/ time. I am pleased w/ the way he's been playing the run!

Thank God that we drafted him. He has been great I say next year either we Realease Ellis or he retires cause he knows that Spencer is an inch from becoming full time starter.

It'll cut into Spencer's sacks, but I can't see a reason for cutting Ellis next year if he's willing to play the situational pass-rusher role. It could lengthen his career and be a tremendous help for our defense.

Ellis can only go forward well at this point, so the only thing you will see him playing is the nickel.

I still can't believe that Philly actually traded w/ us so we could draft Spencer. I loved that pick as soon as it was announced at Radio City. I'll definitely be back next year for our two 1st rounders.....

Spencer's doing great for a rookie... He's so solid and strong. He might never be the quickest or most spectacular player, but he'll always be steady. And I don't think many QBs will get away once he gets his hands on them. He'll just get better and better from here on out.

And I keep having visions of Spencer getting a sack or two and a BIG hit on Brady this weekend... Not sure why, but I do. :)

Spencer was a great pick. He should be a rock at that position for years to come.

Spencer seems to have that "burst" but just needs to refine his pass-rush moves. I really can't wait 'til he's had a full off-season w/ us. He should be a monster which would make Ware monster2.....

The reason Ellis doesn't start is because he can't play in space. Wasn't he the one who blew the coverage on the Welker TD where he crossed the field. I know Ellis wasn't in coverage, maybe Welker left his zone I don't know, but either way Ellis did not look right where he was.

After this game, there is no question: Spencer is hands down the better OLB. But as I said before, we should keep Ellis in on the nickel package. Just don't have him stand up and play zone coverage.

Spencer is going to be a very good pass rusher for us, for a very long time. He's got a veteran in Ellis to study behind, and working opposite Ware will do wonders for him.

We're 2/3 when taking LBs in the first round. Carp on the other hand, just isn't going to work out.

Spencer is getting better and Ellis is settling into a part-time pass rushing role.

Ellis is a very solid player and Spencer looks good. Its a nice 3 man OLB rotation.

Ellis is big and slow in that middle coverage but he's really good at the point of attack. Spencer can be good at both when he get stronger and refines his technique.

Ellis reminds me a lot of Vrabel.

This isn't exactly true. I've seen Ellis drop into coverage at least once.

Check out the date on that post.

No doubt, lol. I guess I should have said Ellis shouldn't be asked to drop into coverage just to clear up any posted date discrepancies. I knew he wouldn't be able to do it, he should be in as a passrusher only. Ellis rushes well from the defensive right and it almost appears Ware rushes better from the defensive left, even though he spends most time on the right.
