While Dutton's comment was obviously stupid, he always was an old-school hard-arse tough-guy.

He's probably bitter at the salaries these guys draw now, and the fact that most of them come across as a bunch of prima donnas.

It was still a stupid thing to say.

THEY SAID IT

"He needs to hire a football guy as G.M., (someone) who has some authority and can disagree with Jerry on decisions without the fear of being fired." -- Dale Hellestrae

"I would have loved to have played for an owner like him. However, I think he stretches himself too thin at times because he wears too many hats." -- Tony Dorsett

"I think the changes this offseason have been the right moves. Dallas was a mentally tired team down the stretch. A soap opera atmosphere can do that to a team. Trust me. Been there, done that." -- Daryl Johnston
Couldn't agree more.

THEY SAID IT

"No teammate is better than the team or the league." -- Brock Marion

"The time has come. It's time to move on." -- Otto Stowe
Almost unanimous. The TO fan club will be bristling about this one.

THEY SAID IT

"A foot up their butts." -- Tony Dorsett

"A heart." -- Tom Rafferty

"Lose the attitude and just play football. We won because we played football. And then our attitude came." -- Brock Marion

"A playmaking receiver without baggage."-- Eric Bjornson

"It seems like the players are running the team."-- Walt Garrison
This is the best post on here in ages. Kudos for finding it. What's puzzling is some of the guys praising it are the same ones who scoffed that the above was the case for the last 2 seasons.

Do you think Tony Romo is the answer at quarterback?

"Yes -- if you put limitations on the amount of times he has to throw the ball. More short passes and run the ball more often."-- Darren Woodson

I couldn't agree more Woody!!!! I hope he calls his ex-teammate Garrett and tells him those exact words.

Yeah, Dutton's comment was over-the-top, but think how painful it was for fans of this team to watch it collapse at the end of the Ravens games-- and then utterly quit against Philly. Yeah, they quit.

Now imagine being a former player on this team and watching that last 65 minutes of the season.

No wonder some of them are pissed off.

Until this team shows some intestinal fortitude it's not going to get the respect it deserves.

why do other team's fans post here under false guises?

man up and be a fan of your team and don't try to cloak and dagger people as though you cared about the star.

I think it's funny how you guys resort to subterfuge because you don't have a team like the cowboys to root for.

America's team for a reason.

Please.

I'm sure I love the Cowboys just as much as anyone here. I'm just not willingly blind to the clown show that keeps rearing it's head and breaking my heart. When the Cowboy are worthy of praise, I give it to them. Dutton's harsh, but as of today he's right. Don't care how you spin it, it's not all on Jerry Jones, Wade Phillips, Bill Parcells or whatever non player entity you want to name. This core is a group of losers that just can't or won't get it. How many times does everyone else have to see them play the same tune before they wake up?

With all due respect to John Dutton, he callously dismissed the entire team. DeMarcus Ware and Jason Witten could have started for many championship teams (Cowboys or other) during any era. Maybe he made his comment as a tribute to his former teammates..?

You can't really cherry pick guys though. Where has Jason Witten and DeMarcus Ware's leadership been in all of these humiliating losses? They are indeed standouts for THIS of the incarnation team, but it almost doesn't matter because we haven't gone anywhere. Why do you think DeMarcus Ware didn't win DPOTY? As dominant as he was as an individual, his unit as a whole crapped the bed. As far as Jason Witten goes, he was in someway involved in the circus of the season.

no you don't. and no you won't.

it's a privilege to be a fan of this team, every other team in the league wishes they were the cowboys.

I take pride in that, win or lose, I take pride in that.

fair weather fans don't impact my life.

I love the star.

I think he thought he would sound "old school" but he must have forgotten that he was the weakest link on our D-Line in the late 70s & early 80s. When I am picking my teams of the decade, he ain't on them. That makes him sound "like an idiot".

He also played with legends like Randy White, Ed Jones and Harvey Martin. Being called the "weakest link" on that line is no disgrace. Chad Hennings was the weakest link on our lines in the 1990s and wouldn't make the team of that decade either, would that make him "like an idiot" if he made a similar comment?

Again, his comment wasn't popular and warm so it becomes somehow "idiotic", but it isn't "idiotic" that he said it. What is idiotic is that it wasn't qualified with any reasoning. The rest is up to the imagination and there's plenty of that going on here.

I love the Cowboys, I just hate on them constantly and in every post and I think nobody on the current team is worthy of playing with John Dutton. Got it. No, wait, you don't make any sense at all.

Are my only choices willingly blind or ***-hat?

So you're one of the guys who's satisfied with no playoffs (much less wins) and a perennially disappointing team? You have a misconception about what being a fan is all about, at least by my definition. There's nothing wrong with voicing your displeasure in the product on the field if it's not up your standards. And given that this team is the Dallas Cowboys, standards SHOULD be pretty high. I spend money on this team and invest my invaluable time every year, I'm entitled to that much and so are you.

no, there is a problem when all you do is piss and moan about the greatest team in the league.

I want us to win, the cowboys are winners in my head, I was right there screaming at the TV when emmitt troy and mike were owning the league.

but I get that that wasn't something that happens all the time, those were were special times, amazing times to be a fan of the boys.

But it's not always like that, the 13 years or whatever it is, that's because the league is full of pros.

You can't win them all, you just can't. Stuff happens.

we got spoiled and I am tired fo hearing "fans" ***** that we don't win enough.

for the love of octopus, we are the dallas freaking cowboys, more people know that name than know the "NFL"

we are blessed to love the team we do, blessed.

america's team for a reason.

That's not at all the gist of what he said or I said. He said he wouldn't want to play with them, not that they weren't worthy. A lot of the teams he played on were better as units than the one on the field right now. The proof is in their accomplishments. Would you take a player that's proven to be nothing, but a loser over your tried and true teammates? It's not about individuals, it's about the team. Like I said, this is the very reason why DeMarcus Ware was not DPOTY.

Not sure why I took this particular post off of ignore. Wish I hadn't. It was a stupid thing to say on Dutton's part.
I was going to quote that just for you, man. :)

This talk of "cherry picking" is sheer genius. I guess MonsterHeel is right... We haven't won a playoff game in x years, so therefore Jason Witten and Jay Ratliff are worthless teammates. Makes perfect sense.

There are some good comments and then some not so good ones.

John Dutton's is just plain stupid. Talk about throwing out the baby with the bath water...

btw - I loved Otto Stowe for the short time he was here. Stowe, Ron Sellers, Billy Parks. Brief but fun.

For what it's worth, my brother inlaw went to high school with him. Says he was and still is a complete *******.

We'll remind the HoF of that when they come knocking for Witten.

If there's a player from any team past or present that wouldn't like to lace em up with a warrior like Witten then they've either had a lobotomy or they need one.
