Sports radio guy in San Diego, 'Hacksaw Hamilton' a morning host for 1090 AM, reported this morning that the Cowboys were seriously working on a Brian Urlacher acquisition.

He does a 15 minute news and notes segment every morning and this was one of his 'bylines'.

Most of his stuff is taken from general web sources that his staff researches the previous evening, nothing ever of the earthshaking 'he has it first' variety.

I haven't seen it elsewhere.

A quick note though, also on this mornings broadcast, he reported the Carolina cheerleader sex story from 2005 as if it had just occurred, he's been taking heat most of the day for that doozy.

I think the understanding is that despite the obvious very bad screw-up most of his reporting is reliable.

Talking out of his behind on that one.

Agreed. Why would we even have interest in Urlacher? We are set at MLB, and while he could play SLB, Monte wouldn't like him for that position because he doesn't have enough speed. I feel like these "journalists" just like to stir the melting pot with false rumors like this, the Romo trade, Revis acquisition, etc.

This would be stupid.

Which means Jerry will offer him a 5-year deal

I can think of worse things than Urlacher in the middle with Lee SOLB and Carter WOLB.

Keep Spencer and the front 7 is pretty much set.

Solb is pretty much a "clean up the trash" role in Kiffin's D. But let's put a great player there. Genius!

Kiffen has already stated that the defense will be adjusted so yes I'd say having a future HOF LB that spent his entire career in a Kiffen defense surrounded by two outstanding young LBs is genius.

We have Lee and Carter. Who needs that Urlacher guy? This isn't 2005.

I agree and some have already discussed this in an older thread. Urlacher is pretty good dropping into coverage. I don't know how well he could cover one on one though. I'd have to see some film.

I wouldn't mind urlacher in a limited role. Very good leader and could provide some knowledge to our young linebackers

I guess the question in Dallas would be two things:
#1 - Can the Defensive front can get pressure like the Bears' front did. If they can't, then I honestly think Urlacher would get exposed after game four. He was slower last season, but his ability to read the offense combined with the quick pressure helped cover up for that.

#2 - Can Urlacher's knees hold up for another season or two in the Tampa 2? This is where I would be really concerned. I don't know if he can hold up an entire season at the MLB spot in the Tampa 2 anymore. He will either end up out due to injury or start looking very slow by mid-season. Then we will have wasted an entire off-season getting Sean Lee ready to play the role that they will no doubt shove him into after that point.

Unless they think Urlacher can by the SLB, then I would say it is a bad move.
