Spreading out the Cowboys Defense

I noticed in the Parcells PC that he talked about strategies opponents might use against the cowboys defense. My assumption is that he is talking about teams lining up in 3 or 4 wide-receiver sets and forcing the cowboys into the nickel or dime package. Therefore, Looking ahead to Jacksonville, do you think that the Jags will implore a spread-offense approach (Perhaps lining Matt Jones out wide as the 3rd/4th receiver??) or do you think they will stay in a more run-oriented formation and take their chances?

My vote says they will test the run-defense early to see if its for real.

Thoughts??

good analysis. they will test the run defense early, but our speed/depth at Linebacker will shut them down. Suggest they go home forfiet (sp?)

Hmm...how would I attack the Cowboys defense?

I would run it up the middle to see if Ferguson can really stuff the runs. I wouldn't run it outside, because there's Ware and Ellis at OLB.

If that doesn't work, I would pass it long towards the FS (Watkins?) to see if he's for real. Passers beware though, because you don't know who's rushing now, Ware or Ellis, both very good pass rushers.

kinda what I said

I guess great minds think alike.

Plus, the main worries of our defense are NT and FS, so most teams will key in on that.

Most likely spreading the d out and looking for mismatches if we stay in the 3-4..

As in Randle El vs. a linebacker (ellis maybe?) in coverage. and then if we switch to nickel using the tight end vs a corner

How would I attack the Cowboys D? Run, run and run against them. Make the Cowboys front 7 prove they can consistently stop the run. Force Roy into the box. Then take your shots deep.

Fergy may not be the best, but he holds his place for the LB's to recover.

Did BP's Giants with LT, Carson et all---a very tough defensive unit sit back in a 2 deep zone to keep matchups in their favor? Or did the Giants move to that D later?

Could see BP using that as a changeup to keep and dictate to offense to some degree....but with our D backs Man is very tempting, except for getting a rb isolated on the wrong LB........that never seemed to happen to LT or Carson back then, but again Lt would just get to QB so fast that it would blow up a long developing pattern

The Jaguars don't even have 4 good WRs

This doesnt make much sense, though. Dallas has arguably the deepest secondary in football. A dime package with Newman, Henry, Glenn, Coleman, Williams, and Reeves will be tough to pass on

Some actual football talk how refreshing :)

I wouldn't want to run agains the boys to be honest. The depth we have with DL and LB is scary. We are going to absolutly wear down OL's this year.

On the other end of things we are stacked with DB's this year as well. I agree with you guys the only real weakness is FS.

I would hate to be the OC for the opposing teams.

might want to check that again.

Their #1 is a converted QB, their #2 is a former second day pick, their #3 is an epic bust who has caught 1 TD in two years, and their #4 is a guy named Chad Owens.

The Jaguars defense is the only good apsect of their team. The offense is non existent against good defenses. Personally I think Leftwich is hyped and not very good and none of their receivers scare me at all.

If Dallas plays smart it should be an easy win for us.

Some in here are still under the believe we took the wrong player that draft and Leftwich should have been the pick. I'm not a big fan of him however.
