So I built a custom cedar bar in my backyard and after 2 years the squirrels have decided they want to have at the thing. I have over $8,000 into this and alot of hrs. and I don't plan on having them eat it. I tried moth balls and they laughed at that attempt. I need some options, has anyone had success keeping them away??I will add pics

Set up bird feeders on the opposite side of the yard from the bar with easy access for the squirrels and then set up a motion sensor owl at the bar. This will train them to stay away from the bar. After a few weeks, just remove the bird feeder and then they will go elsewhere altogether. Throw in a couple of rubber snakes around the bar as well.

Where do I put the owl? The problem with the bar is they are starting to eat the cedar deck board ends as well.

Also is the owl loud because my neighbors are close

I might add I have a small dog as well. I have tried catching them and it seems like I am just calling them in

I have a lot of squirrel issues at my home. They ripped the wiring harness out of my Toyota Tacoma to build a nest with among other things. My main defense is just a pellet gun. I've probably killed 12-15 this year. I also have two small live traps. One of them I have mounted in a large pecan tree and the other on my fence where they run to stay above my dogs. I've probably trapped 30+ with 1/2 a cob of corn as bait and just release them at the local lake. When they get in my front trees I knock them out with a pressure washer. I don't like killing them with the pellet gun in front of the neighbors and it's a blast when they're sitting there chattering at you to tag them with a pressurize water stream. I got one a couple of weeks ago while he was eating one of my pecans. Blew the nut right out of his mouth.

Rat poison

The only problem I see with that is the squirrels are likely to find a hidden spot to die around the bar he is trying to protect. He won't realize it until they start decomposing and stinking up the bar.

Only thing I can think of is some type of electric rods or plates that will shock them hard, it would be expensive and you would have to put them everywhere.

Jack Russell. They hate squirrels. Mine has attempted to climb trees to get at them. Problem is it'll probably start peeing on your bar.
