Anthony Spencer said he had a setback over the weekend when he had swelling in his knee, but he will try to play Sunday night if he is able.

“If it’s good to go, then I will. If it’s not, then I won’t,” he said Thursday at Valley Ranch, and he likened it to the pectoral muscle injury that caused him to miss two games last year. “It’s kind of like the thing I had with my pec last year. If I could play, I would play, and if it’s a thing where it’s iffy, then I won’t.”

Spencer, recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery in July at the start of training camp, said the knee swelled after some running but that it was for only one day. He said he did conditioning work in practice Thursday and was fine.

“It’s good right now,” he said. “I’ll know more in the morning. I really can’t tell. It’s good when I’m doing the running and stuff. It’s just the next day and the day after that when I’ve really got to find out.”

Spencer said he’s glad he’s making progress, but he is realistic about his chances for Sunday.

“I wanted to play in this game, so I expected to do some stuff on Wednesday and I wasn’t able to do that,” he said. “It’s not really where I wanted to be at right now.”
