Defensive end Anthony Spencer considers himself a backup now, at least for this week.
"If I go on Sunday, it won’t be like the starting role, playing 60-70 snaps," Spencer said. "It’ll be limited. I’m not sure what that is right now, but it’ll definitely be limited. ...I’m going to be backing guys up."
Spencer practiced Friday for the second time this week and for only the second time since undergoing left knee surgery July 25. He took "15 or 16" snaps during Wednesday's practice and said he did more Friday after a planned day off Thursday.
"I went a lot more today," Spencer said. "I did some scout stuff, and I did stuff on the defense. I was just trying to get as much as I could in."
Spencer missed the season opener against the Giants, but the Cowboys could use him in a situational role Sunday against the Chiefs. George Selvie started for Spencer last week and had a sack, two quarterback pressures and a fumble recovery.
"I feel better than I did on Wednesday," Spencer said. "I feel a lot more fluid in the stuff that I’m doing and just moving around. I feel better."
