It was not a good week for the Cowboys top four linebackers. Justin Durant and Sean Lee both went out of the New Orleans game with hamstring injuries and now are out 3-4 weeks.
To add insult to injury, the league on Friday announced fines for Bruce Carter and Ernie Sims for penalties in the 32-point loss to the Saints.
The NFL fined Carter $15,570 for a horse-collar tackle on Saints running back Darren Sproles. Sims was hit with a $7,875 fine for a facemask penalty against Saints running back Mark Ingram. Both penalties came in the Saints' six-play, 92-yard drive in the third quarter. Sims' penalty cost the Cowboys 15 yards, and Carter's 5 yards since it occurred inside the 10-yard line. The Cowboys also had a defensive holding penalty called on Brandon Carr in the drive. It also is the drive they lost Durant.
The Cowboys have had three other players fined since the regular season started. Safety Barry Church was fined $5,250 for throwing a football into the stands after a touchdown against the Giants; receiver Dez Bryant was fined $7,875 for a throat-slash after a touchdown against the Rams; and linebacker Cameron Lawrence $21,000 for a blindside block against the Commanders.
