Safety Barry Church won the team's third annual Home Run Derby on Wednesday at Globe Life Park. Church racked up $8,400 hits, with 22 hits in 30 at bats, to beat tight end Jason Witten by $100. Running back DeMarco Murray finished third with $4,300 in hits.
The nine participants, including coach Jason Garrett, raised $50,000 in the Reliant-sponsored event to benefit The Salvation Army.
"I've probably swung at a baseball about five times in my life," Church said. "I didn't expect to come in here and win this, but I got a little rhythm. For the whole year long, I'm the Home Run Derby champion, and to beat Witten in the championship round made it that much sweeter."
No player hit a ball over the Major League ballpark wall, but the Cowboys did hit 33 "home runs" over a temporary fence erected midway in the outfield.
