Right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau doesn’t need to have it spelled out for him.
He knows the Cowboys didn’t give Brian Waters $3 million to sit around. The time is coming when Waters will be given Bernadeau’s job.
“I don’t think about that,” Bernadeau said. “Not at all.”
How can he not?
“I’m focused on the Giants, and that’s what I do,” said Bernadeau, who started all 16 games at right guard for the Cowboys last year in the first year of an $11.5 million, four-year deal. “I’ve got to work on myself and what I’ve got to do every day. He’s a great guy. I’ve learned a lot from him. But I just focus on this week, and that’s the Giants.”
Bernadeau at least feels good physically. He is coming off shoulder surgery in the offseason, plus a hamstring injury that kept him out of the first week of training camp. He also had an ankle injury in camp.
“I played a good month of preseason, and I felt confident playing then, and I feel confident playing now,” he said.
