Bill Parcells’ speech centered on his eight seasons leading the Giants, the team with whom he won two titles. But Parcells did mention Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, as well as Tom Landry and Gil Brandt in his speech. He thanked “the great Jerry Jones and his family there in Dallas” for hiring him, Landry for offering him advice and Brandt for “helping on the personnel side.”
"Are you kidding me?" Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said. "It was in order. It was from the heart. It makes you miss him. He is special."
The Cowboys hired Parcells in 2003, and in perhaps his greatest coaching job, Parcells led Dallas to the playoffs despite having Quincy Carter at quarterback. The Cowboys were 34-32 with Parcells, with no playoff victories but two playoff berths.
“He was a legendary coach before he got to Dallas,” said Cowboys tight end Witten, who stayed after Allen’s speech to hear his former coach’s speech. “He had a huge impact on a lot of us. The player I am today is because of the impact he had. He was a huge part of it. It was neat to see him in this moment.”
