He had an injury, sure. But if he ends the year without a sack, that's a big disappointment. Need to see some flashes from this guy.

Way to early to knock, would like to see him at LDE more, need best lineman on field.

I whole-heartedly disagree with this 100%. In fact, I think his biggest issue is exactly the opposite. I think he has gotten too heavy and lost his explosion. He needs to trim down and regain that quick first step that was one of the main reasons we drafted him.

I think they should let him rush from a standing position on 3rd downs and see if it helps him get free.
He didn't lose explosion. He never really had it in college. He looked like a young Greg Ellis type, without Greg's strength. He's not a quick twitch player. He's a work hard guy with decent size and strength.

Rookie defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence knows he hasn’t made much of an impact yet for a guy drafted 34th overall in last year’s draft.

He has yet to record a sack and has only one tackle for loss in five career games.

“I’m feeling like it’s my time,” Lawrence said. “It’s time for me to show up, time for me to go out there and start making plays.

“I feel like I know the playbook well enough that I should be able to go out there, do my assignments, get after the quarterback or be a run stopper.”

“He’s coming along well,” veteran defensive end Jeremy Mincey said. “He’s going to be a really good player, he’s just got to learn some small details.”

One thing that clearly shows up when watching him is his violent hands. He shows good athleticism but just doesn't seem to have an idea of how to rush the passer.
Love the use of the word violent.

DLaw needs to move in with Haley this off season to work on his pass rush.

I liked him coming out. And still think he's a good prospect. He's shown less than some of our seventh rounders and CFAs, though. Maybe that's to be expected given how much of camp and the season he missed. Marinelli was sure pretty excited about him coming in, prior to him breaking his foot. I consider that a hopeful sign.

lol.. this sums up my feelings too. I'm very irritated we gave up a 3rd rounder for this guy too.
Hindsight is 20/20. If the shooting department thought he was an impact player, I have no problem with them going after him. Maybe they misevaluated the player, the thought process for going to get him was correct.

I am pulling for this guy but man I have not been impressed so far. Trying to be patient but have some doubts about him for sure. It's like if you asked me if I'd redraft Martin, it's a hell yes. With Lawrence, it's give me those two picks back please.

I hope he can come on strong to close out the season but for the most part this has been a lost season for Lawrence with so much time missed in camp.

No time in the NFL is ever lost, IMO. Sure, he missed a bunch of games, but that doesn't mean he wasn't able to work on other aspects of his game (mental, strength training, etc).

The way some people are talking, if I didn't know any better I'd think that sacks are more valuable than points in the NFL. I don't care if he were to somehow end the season with negative sacks -- it's just one statistic out of many. It just happens to be the sexiest stat.

How is he doing against the run? He has shown that he can create pressure consistently? Those are the things I'm most interested in seeing in the next two games. Sacks are icing on the cake.

0 sacks.................1 TFL

That is the production we got out of our 2nd and 3rd round picks this year.....................ouch

Now I am not saying he is a bust or anything, but he clearly has been a disappointment considering how much was given up for him (not that it is his fault how much Dallas gave up). It just seems like we keep getting burnt in these draft day trade ups, the only one we really hit on was trading up with New England for Dez Bryant. Other than that, it has been whiff city lately.

DLaw needs a full offseason in the weight room and time to work with the coaches on his technique.......................................I am surprised how raw he seems to be, I expected more of a polished product the way he was hyped in the draft.

No it wasn't. When your team has all kinds of holes on defense, you don't give up your 3rd rounder. You stay right where you are and take BPA. We could have gotten a player there who was just as good as Lawrence. Someone like Timmy Jernigan. Instead, the Cowboys desperatly wanted to fill the void left by Ware on the RDE, and made a poor decision.

Defensive end is one of the most difficult positions for rookies to excel. Lawrence reminds me more of a young Anthony Spencer than a young Demarcus Ware.
