Brian Waters had not played football in a year and a half when he signed with the Cowboys on Sept. 4. It took him a couple of weeks, but playing guard apparently is like riding a bike for him. He has not missed a beat since taking over as the starting right guard in Week 4.

"He’s pretty darn close to being back to himself," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Friday. "There’s no question about that. That was a concern, or something we talked about a lot, in bringing him back, understanding that he hadn’t played last year and didn’t go through training camp. We have a tremendous respect for the game and the level of competition that goes on every Sunday afternoon. So guys have to be ready to do that. He’s done it really well for a long time. So he had to get back in football shape and just move around and really get his feet underneath him, get his hands back, all that stuff that came so naturally to him for a long time. If you haven’t done it, it just takes you a little bit to get it back.

"I think conditioning, as much as anything else, was an issue for any player in his position. He was surprisingly in very good shape, wasn’t overweight when he first came back. He had to lose a little bit of weight, but more than anything else just get comfortable playing ball again. I think he’s done that over the last few weeks."

Not big on FA signings. It's always been ok for the right price at the right time oh so cautiously. And don't hinder or cut a player who can help out later who is cheaper. This is one of those good signings if he stays healthy. Jerry and crew gets an attaboy.

couldn't agree more...with all of the negativity around JJ and personnel decision (contracts) in the past, this one is a home run so far...also, just speculating, but if this AND Moore were the plan in the off season, and Moore ended up playing, is the team better or worse right now? Leary has gained important experience and has been improving, but if Moore had been here as well, does Leary get many opportunities? Does Arkin get cut A LOT earlier than this week?

I did not read all that. Does it seem Brian is happy to be playing with the Boys?

The way he has been playing I wouldn't mind Brian here for a couple more years.

Well, he'll be 37 I think in February so we will be pretty lucky to get 2 more years out of him.

I can see them following the same path next off-season...a hand-shake deal where he doesn't sign his 1-year deal until about 5 minutes before kick-off on opening night...Waters gets to miss training camp and then the team benefits from his services once again...win-win

obviously we should've brought him in a year ago. Ironically we whiff on our big money guys, Rat, Austin, Spencer, Livings, but really struck gold with Waters and Selvie for pennies.....
