Cole Beasley said he’s glad Tony Romo kept faith in him after he fumbled following a catch against the Giants.
Beasley caught a 13-yard pass on third-and-10 in the fourth quarter to allow the Cowboys to run time out before kicking the game-winning field goal. In the third quarter, he had a 17-yard catch but fumbled at the end of it, although the play was negated by a roughing-the-passer penalty.
“I’m glad I could contribute a little bit today,” Beasley said. “I had a fumble earlier. I got saved, though. I’m glad they kept faith in me, and then came back to me.”
Beasley, a second-year player undrafted out of SMU, is the fifth-leading receiver on the team with 28 catches for 274 yards and a touchdown.
“I think I’ve shown them that I belong, really, and that I can play at this level,” he said. “They probably weren’t too sure about that at first. Everybody was skeptical about size and everything, whether I could handle hits and things like that. But I’ve been able to play well, and they’ve been giving me opportunities. I’m just thankful that they have.”
Coach Jason Garrett said Beasley has earned some trust.
“Beasley has been a good matchup player for us, really, throughout the year,” he said. “We’ve given him a number of different opportunities in certain situations, some very critical situations, and he seems to get himself open, and Tony has a real faith and confidence in him to make the play. That certainly was a big play in the ballgame because you get really down in there, now it becomes a very make-able field goal with a guy like Dan Bailey and then you can work the rest of the situation out.”
