Linebacker Kyle Bosworth cost the Cowboys a few precious seconds late in Sunday's game by taking a squib kick and running toward the sideline. Bosworth picked up the ball at the Dallas 33 and ran 13 yards, burning five seconds.

It left the Cowboys with only seven seconds.

"There are two things we should have done in that situation," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Monday. "It's just simply run north and south and get down, or simply get down immediately. What you don't want to do there is you don't want to bounce and go to the sidelines and chew up all that time. It probably would be a two- or three-second difference, maybe given us another play. That's how we could have handled that situation, and we addressed that."

Though they had two timeouts remaining, the Cowboys chose to run a hook and lateral for their final attempt at a miracle finish. A short pass to Cole Beasley turned into a fumble, a recovery and a lateral that ended at the Dallas 39.

Coach Jason Garrett determined the Cowboys didn't have enough time to get close enough to attempt a Hail Mary.
