IRVING — As expected, linebacker Bruce Carter and right tackle Doug Free have been ruled out for the Cowboys-Giants game on Sunday.

Carter is dealing with a quadriceps injury and is hopeful to play next week. Free has a foot fracture and could be out for another 2-3 weeks.

Defensive end Jack Crawford (calf) is listed as doubtful.

The rest of the Cowboys on the injury report are all probable for Sunday’s game: WR Dez Bryant (shoulder); LB Cameron Lawrence (thigh); LB Rolando McClain (groin); RB DeMarco Murray (illness); T Jermy Parnell (chest); QB Tony Romo (back/ ankle); T Tyron Smith (ankle); DE Anthony Spencer (knee/ foot).

IRVING, Texas – Dallas Cowboys linebacker Bruce Carter will miss his third straight game Sunday because of a quadriceps strain, but he said he expects to play on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” on Oct. 27 against the Washington Commanders.

i

CarterCarter went through his most extensive rehab day since getting hurt Sept. 28 against the New Orleans Saints, running through linebacker drills off to the side on Friday. He will take Saturday off and go through another workout before Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

He hopes to be able to practice next Wednesday.

Carter said the extra day to prepare for the Commanders will help his leg get stronger.

Despite missing the last two games, Carter is fourth on the defense with 29 tackles. He also has a sack, three quarterback pressures, an interception and four pass deflections. Kyle Wilber is expected to start in place of Carter against the Giants.

Get well, Bruce. Whoa -- he must have strained that quad pretty seriously to require that long a time to recover. We've got to give the team credit for allowing guys like Carter sufficient time to heal. Perhaps it's merely a case of depth being its own reward but it appears an advantage that this team hasn't had the luxury of in a long time. Next year's team should enjoy its depth improving even more. With a decent draft, we should be even more stable.

You can bet on it -- I just hope this team is able to sustain this roll we're finding ourselves on. It'll be a test of our newfound consistency. With another good effort at home, we should be able to emerge being 6-1 and smiling.

Yeah, another week, maybe 2 weeks, I won't mind that, then have Carter 100% for the Cardinals game. Hopefully Free can get back for that game too. Maybe even Lawrence.

Think the Cowboys will miss Doug Free far more than many of us realize.....Martin and Free are a good team on the right side....really not sure if Parnell is up to the task.

this is Parnell's shot. If he cannot get it done now time to cut him loose.

Parnell is reportedly not yet quite 100% recovered from his injury. It'll most likely be a stiff test for him to pass. I'd like nothing better than to see him acquit himself well. No question, this test looms large for him and his future.

I would hope that they run the ball to the left side a lot more in this game to limit things going Parnell's way too much in his first real game action

The bye week can't get here soon enough. I always hate the bye because I hate a Sunday without the Boys, but the team really needs to shore up some of these small injuries that need an extra week to heal.

Hope your right, Parnell is long term backup who hasn't stepped up to take the position away from Doug Free....its a big difference from playing a few snaps vs a few (2-3) games. There is a reason why he is a backup not the starter. Hope your right...we will see soon enough.
