The Cowboys reached an injury settlement with offensive guard Nate Livings, who they had temporarily placed on injured reserve last week. But they still owe him his $1.7 million salary that was guaranteed for 2013.
The Cowboys signed Livings to a five-year, $18.75 million deal before the start of the 2012 season, and Livings started all 16 games last season.
It gives the Cowboys flexibility to re-sign Livings later this season, if they have a need. Livings still is rehabbing from knee surgery Aug. 2. It was his second surgery on his right knee since last season. Owner Jerry Jones said Livings has a degenerative knee condition.
The Cowboys had planned on replacing Livings this season. Ron Leary and Brian Waters likely will be the team's starting guards once Waters is up to speed on the offense. He signed this week after sitting out the 2012 season.
The Cowboys also wavied defensive tackle Travis Chappelear.
