I usually have no use for anything written by Mac Engel, but I think he makes a valid case here:

Like so many before him, Jason Garrett was gelded long ago by his boss, and if the coach wants to regain any footing with his players he needs to cut linebacker Rolando McClain yesterday.

Actually, cutting Ro’ may not make a difference in a locker room that knows it’s not Coach Process who has the final say on who is and isn’t in that room.

If the Dallas Cowboys keep the recently re-suspended McClain on their roster, it will further erode whatever confidence anybody should have in Jason Garrett’s authority ... if he has any remaining.

Stasheroo, I chuckled aloud at your phrase stating Garrett was "gelded long ago by his boss," -- a somewhat accurate phrase, methinks.

Thanks to Jerry, his insistence upon having the "Right Kinda Guys" has unfortunately taken on a relatively non-meaningful prospective.

I tried to look this up myself, but to no avail, but it has been mentioned in another Ro thread that he can't be cut while on suspension and that it makes more sense to wait it out to see what the shape of the LB corps looks like after 10 games before pulling the trigger.

Personally, I have no use for stupidity on our football team and will be very happy when his days in Dallas are over. I'm sure Garrett has an input but he'll never make the final decision on his fate. If the Jones' decide to keep him Garrett will be clapping him up all the way towards his next suspension.

I agree he needs to go, but I also want to point out that Ro when he was rolling was a force on the field, unlike anyone else on the defensive side, IMO. Sean Lee a great talent is not a sledge hammer like Ro. Clearly RoMc is a short timer for the squad so let's do it with dignity and little drama. Similar to what we are probably facing with Gregory either this year or next.

Poor JG -- his insistence upon having the 'Right Kinda Guys' has unfortunately taken on a relatively non-meaningful prospective.

It was Mac's phrase. But a spot on article.

Thanks -- I stand corrected regarding that spot-on phrase. It was an apt description of a unfortunate dilemma. But in JG's defense, his gelding wasn't anything that hasn't happened before and likely will again with practically anyone destined to man the head coaching post with Dallas. Let's face it -- Jerry certainly isn't likely to have it any other way as long as he retains the last word.

then jason needs to step up and take the lead, not wait for jones to give it to him. if he is this "lame duck" coach then it's because he chooses to be. so even if ro gets cut, garrett would have nothing to do with it.

Not too sure you understand how the chain of command works in Dallas and elsewhere.

when it comes to making the cowboys money and the league money jerry is great when it comes to building a football team he is a lost as a goose in a hailstorm but true he is large and incharge in dallas and that will never change so unfortunately they are destined to be a middle of the road franchise that worries more about new practice digs than the team that practices there I finally have been able to accept that it is what it is with the cowboys.

Just keep in mind, Garrett has more power than any coach will ever have here.....ever.

So long as Jerry is still kicking.

This is getting old. No one likes rooting for criminals, drug users who constantly get suspended, and headcases. It's embarrassing.

This team is really trying my patience.

I happen to agree with Mac in principle here that McClain needs to be cut. Yet he still manages to write another garbage artical somehow. Complete trash.

If Jerry likes idiots, woman beaters, rapists, and drug users so much then he needs to open up a prison.

This is supposed to be America's Team.

Just stop.

Every team in the league has problems like this. Every single one. The freakin' Patriots had a thug who MURDERED someone right under their noses, a guy who had issues in college and there was rumors he was caught up in thug culture, they still took him in. You know, the team that supposedly has a zero tolerance to bad behavior policy. Yet, they have an RB that openly knocked another player out in college for being a loudmouth.

This is an NFL problem, not even an NFL problem, just a humanity problem. Stop with the exaggerations and quite frankly, I'm sick of reading crap like this on this site. I think it's time to start filtering people like you out, I really do. This stupidity can't stand.

And they cut that same player almost immediately when they found out about the murder. So you are saying what, they knew about the murder?

Fair enough, then come out and admit the Cowboys knew Spillman was a rapist and he stayed on the team.

It's just another failed attempt to justify this team continuing to employ turds.

Unfortunately there are a lot of low character players that exist. And yes, invariably all teams run into a situation where their behavior requires the organization to make a choice. The Cowboys just happen to find themselves in that position a lot since Jones took a page out of Al Davis' handbook. But that was a different era where player transgressions were far less publicized.
