The Cardinals and Cowboys will play in the 2017 Hall-of-Fame Game.

The league's annual preseason opener will take place on a Thursday (Aug. 3) as opposed to its traditional Sunday this year. Last year's game was canceled because of an unplayable field. We can only assume The Shield has since pumped some money into the Canton stadium. Carson Palmer and Dak Prescott will play a few snaps before giving way to the bottom of the 90-men rosters.

Dallas Cowboys to play in Hall of Fame Game, watch Jones induction

The Dallas Cowboys can officially set their plans for the week-long Hall of Fame party honoring owner Jerry Jones.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced Thursday that the Cowboys will play the Arizona Cardinals in the annual Hall of Fame Game, set for Thursday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. at the new Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

The game will be played two days before Jones will be officially inducted as a member of the Class of 2017 on Aug. 5.

In between, Jones will hold his Hall of Fame party on Aug. 4.

It will result in an extended stay in Canton, Ohio, for the Cowboys, who will likely travel arrive on Wednesday, play the game on Thursday, have Friday off, conduct a light practice on Saturday and then fly back to training camp on Sunday.

When Jerry first bought the team and the Cowboys went 1-15 that first season, no one in their wildest dreams thought Jerry being elected to the HOF would ever be possible. There were so many Jimmy/Jerry jokes during those first couple of years it's pretty remarkable he ever achieved the status he has in the NFL.

Dak won't play a single down in that game and I doubt Zeke plays either. This will be a mostly 2nd and 3rd string exhibition. Romo will get a few snaps if he's still on the roster.
