The NFL fined Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant $7,875 for a throat-slash gesture after his first-quarter touchdown. Bryant was penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Bryant said Monday he was doing the two-handed "cut it off" sign rather than the throat slash. He immediately apologized to Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, but, having already anticipated the fine, he said he would appeal.
"It wasn't really a throat slash, but I was wrong," Bryant said Monday. "I came right to him and told him this is why I got the flag. I'm going to appeal it. I have to. I shouldn't have done it anyway."
The NFL banned the throat slash in 1999.
