Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said watching film of the Hall of Fame game against the Dolphins was a like "a come to Jesus" meeting for several young players on the team about their performance.
One such player was safety J.J. Wilcox, who got a lot of rave reviews early in camp for his hitting but didn't show up as well against the Dolphins.
"Wilcox needs to play better. And he saw that on tape," Garrett said. "He needs to run better. He needs to get around the ball better. He just needs to understand what it takes to play at this level and take all the work he’s doing in practice to the game field. He did some good things in the game. Don’t get me wrong. But he can play better and he knows it."
Wilcox acknowledges he needs to play but as anyone would coming off their first game. But he thought he did pretty good overall.
"It's great around for the first time," Wilcox said. "It was a great first game. There are some things I could have took back but that is always the case. There are areas I still got to learn _ just come and play full speed, just let it go. I think I did pretty good overall."
