The Cowboys kept quarterback Tony Romo in practice on Tuesday, when he was supposed to have a light day (or a day off entirely), because they wanted him to get work in short yardage and goal-line situations.
“He needs that work with the team,” coach Jason Garrett said. “He (wasn’t) going to be throwing anywhere, moving around a whole lot. And he did a lot lighter work in the individual stuff and the one-on-ones than he normally would do.”
Romo didn’t miss a minute of practice. Earlier, Garrett said the plan was for Romo to practice very little or not at all, so when Romo never came out, it looked like Romo had talked his way past the coach and into practicing.
Garrett said it was a “we” decision.
“The nature of that practice was a lot of short-yardage, goal-line-type stuff, and so it was going to be a light practice for him, anyway,” Garrett said. “We weren’t going to throw a lot to the receivers. It was just a lighter day, so we talked through about how we were going to handle him. There was some discussion about keeping him out of practice, and then we decided to keep him in those drills.”
