Rookie cornerback B.W. Webb had what secondary coach Jerome Henderson called “a rough game” against Oakland.
He might have been over-thinking the competition, Henderson said.
“That’s what I told B.W.,” Henderson said after Monday’s walk-through. “I remember playing against a receiver. I went into the game thinking, ‘Gosh, I better give this guy some room, give him an extra step because he’s a really good player.’ And then I end up on the team with that same player a couple years later, and I’m like, ‘Why did I do that? That’s the worst way to play that guy.’ ”
Henderson said he told Webb to decide what kind of style he wants to play and then play it.
“Don’t worry and think and give him too much credit,” Henderson said. “I gave a receiver too much credit, and I think B.W. did that in the game the other night -– gave guys too much credit.”
