Defensive end DeMarcus Ware notched his first sack since the Saints game and his second since Oct. 22 against the Rams.
He now has six sacks on the season. But it is proving to be too little, too late for the Cowboys, who have the worst pass defense in the league and were obliterated by Bears quarterback Josh McCown Monday night.
McCown completed 27 of 36 passes for 348 yards with four touchdowns before Ware got the lone meaningless sack of the game for the Cowboys in the fourth quarter.
Ware has been bothered by a neck and quad injuries for much of the season that has limited his effectiveness. He and coach Jason Garrett said the Cowboys need more from the team's all-time leading pass rusher if they hope to get any improvement on defense.
"He is coming off that injury," Garrett said. "But he has been dealing with that for most of the year. It's one of those deals where he has to get himself going and start impacting the game a little more. We certainly need him down the stretch."
Ware, who missed three games with a quad injury and still just getting back to 100 percent, said he feels good but needs to be better.
"Health-wise I feel good," Ware said. "I feel top shape, running around out there good. Just got to find some way to win. I just think about I’ve got to be more consistent myself. Putting up big numbers, I haven’t been doing that. I’ve got to get back to that. It’s December. You have no choice."
