Jerry Jones signed Deion Sanders in 1995 to a record-breaking contract that included a $12.9 million signing bonus. The Cowboys owner still thinks an awful lot of the Hall of Fame cornerback, who helped the Cowboys win their third Super Bowl title of the 1990s.

Jones said on his radio show Tuesday that he has no doubt Sanders could cover Calvin Johnson, whose 329-yard receiving day against the Cowboys on Sunday was the second-best in NFL history.

"Yes, I do. That's just it," Jones said on KRLD-FM 105.3. "Deion has such catch-up speed, and he had real good centerfield ability, and I mean that ... in [a] football sense. He could really play the ball, and he had such ability to get into position to play the ball.

"Now, you're talking about the greatest cover guy maybe that's played this game. I've seen where he's been declared the greatest cover guy. Hall of Famer. But I do think he could do a real good job on Johnson. Johnson's going to get some probably, but I think he could do a great job. Deion's a great player."

The Cowboys used cornerback Brandon Carr one-on-one against Johnson at times. Carr allowed 12 receptions the 15 times Matthew Stafford targeted him, according to Pro Football Focus. PFF said Carr allowed 281 of Johnson’s 329 yards, with 116 coming after the catch.
