Jerry Jones: Jason Garrett is not on the hot seat, he will get more rope because of off season changes
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones opened training camp in July saying that this would be no armageddon year for coach Jason Garrett.

Jones is not backing off that statement heading in Sunday’s season opener against the New York Giants. He said that Garrett is not on the hot seat this year.

Garrett has a 21-19 record in two and half years as head coach, including a 16-16 mark the past two seasons combined.

While Jones expects the Cowboys to make a playoff run after three straight seasons out of the postseason, he intimated that Garrett didn’t need to make the playoffs to keep his job.

Jones will give Garrett a little more lee-way beyond won-loss record because his new role as a walk-around coach and the staff changes made in the off season.

To be honest I'm fine with it. I'm not a huge fan of Garrett and some of those coaching blunders he has made, but I'm willing to see what he has when he's in the walk around HC position. I can say that there is one thing that I like about Garrett and it is his desire to draft captains and guys with the right kind of attitude. It doesn't guarantee success, but I prefer to have a team without thugs.

That said, the results have to be there. He's been the very definition of average so far, but we'll see.

I think we need the continuity. Jason is building the roster for the long term. He isn't quite done yet, but he is getting closer.

He's rather harmless now that he's just the head cheerleader. As long as he can demand respect from players, it doesn't really matter what he does.

Now this is the way to be cautiously optimistic.

That is absolutely way out in left field.

Why would any owner condemn his team's season by saying his coach is on the hotseat? How well did that work for Philthy and Andy Reid?

And that's why this team will continue to fail because no one is held accountable. Romo, the interception Man is rewarded with a long contract after this team missed the playoffs and Garrett with all his coaching blunders is not on the hot seat

So in this organization you get paid to FAIL

Like he would come out and say it. Bottom line, miss the playoffs fourth year in a row and he's gone.

Wasn't this the same guy who swore he'd never fore a coach in the middle of the season.

Let Garrett drop a couple of deuces and go 1 and 7 and then let's reshuffle the deck and see what ole Jerry the Snake Oil Salesman does.
