Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is disappointed that guard Ron Leary will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery on Friday, causing him to miss the next two-to-four weeks.
Jones considers Leary at starter at left guard and his hopeful he will return in time for the season opener against the Giants Sept. 8.
Still Jones said Leary, a second-year player and former undrafted free agent, needed the work _ as does the entire offensive line.
"I hate that he’s not getting the work," Jones said. "I am relieved it’s not any more serious than it is."
Jones admits being frustrated and snake bit because of all the injuries at the same position.
Nate Livings, who started last year at left guard, missed the early part of camp with a cut on his foot before having to undergo knee surgery that has him out for bulk of the preseason. Right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau was out early with a hamstring injury. Leary had a foot injury that kept him out the first two weeks of camp and now needs surgery.
Backup guards Kevin Kowalski (knee), Ryan Cook (back) and Ray Dominguez (shoulder) still are out.
"Well it does (have me feeling snakebit). What do we have 18 offensive lineman on the roster?" Jones said. "When we thought we had as much and more as we needed. As we are seeing it doesn’t mean a lot of those are down the line guys well it doesn’t mean those are up front guys are not out too. You are dealing with that in training camp. But we are getting injury and compromised at a spot we didn't need to get compromised."
