Jerry Jones says not to bet against the Cowboys taking another offensive player, but acknowledged that there are greater needs on defense.
“From the standpoint of looking at our needs, I would say right now we need a defensive player more than we need an offensive player,” he said after Thursday night’s first round of the NFL draft.
The best available defensive players are largely defensive linemen, which is the area where the Cowboys were weakest last year. The prospects include Boise State end Demarcus Lawrence, Notre Dame tackles Louis Nix and Stephon Tuitt, Florida State tackle Timmy Jernigan, Missouri end Kony Ealy, Oregon State end Scott Crichton and Minnesota tackle RaShede Hageman.
“We’re going to see what player is there, available for us,” Jones said. “We’re going to see what trades are there. And I wouldn’t want to bet a lot that we might not take an offensive player again, or take an offensive player at any pick coming up.”
