By default. When you're competing against a Safety convert and a rookie with major footwork issues coming out of a spread offense, there's not really all that much to remain in control of.

I like Moore. I just can't believe we're not bringing in somebody with some NFL starts to push him. Garrett can talk all he wants about earning the right to compete for the job, but there's nobody for him to compete against here right now.

I don't agree with handing Moore the job with no real competition. If losing all his starts and throwing more interceptions than touchdowns means he earned the right to be the back up, then Wilcox, Street and McCray are safe as well.

Thia kind of reminds of Romo's early years, when they were so dead set on Henson being the future that they practically handed him the reigns. I think they should give Showers a chance to at least challenge Moore, who knows they may strike it rich again with him, (although I doubt it).

I'm still holding out hope that McCown or a Rams backup shake free due to cuts. That way there is a real battle for the number 2 spot and Moore isn't just handed the job. They made that mistake with Weeden last season then had to scramble when he wasn't ready.

Get someone in for camp so the QB knows the offense and has some familiarity with the OL, WR's, TE's and RB's before the regular season begins.

I'm not crazy about Moore but who out there is available?

Wait wait, so Showers isn't the best in camp so far now? Did this change in the last 12 hours? What is next, an article claiming that Dak has the inside track to #2?

Not surprised knowing full well that the Matt Cassels and Brandon Weedens of the NFL Veteran QB options are lesser players than one Kellen Moore.

You guys really think a Nick Foles type Veteran is that much better than Weeden and/or Cassel? We have one QB on the roster behind Romo that has proven to be able to win a game with this team and without Dez Bryant, his name is Mr. 435! Plus he came back from 24 points down to do win vs the NFC East opponent.

I'm still not convinced that we don't somehow see the #2 Cowboys jersey trotting out for warm ups on opening day. I think Jerry will send JFF to dry up and he winds up on the roster. That would bring immense media attention to the Cowboys, something Jerry absolutely lives for.

The QB bar is at an epic low...............

Nobody should be worried about this,If Romo goes down we are screwed and will likely get another top 5 pick.none of the QBs on our roster can win games with Garretts offense.

I look at our history... not just 2015... and I see a lot of once-successful QBs who have given us some wins over the years. I see Weeden, and he doesn't fit as a "once-successful QB"... I look at Cassel, and I see someone who came in late and who might just be a one-off regardless...

Foles has been successful. McCown has, too, but probably is less available. I think the lesson I take from 2015 is... merely to give yourself a fighting chance, not that it guarantees you wins in Romo's absence... that you benefit greatly from having someone who's really and truly been successful in this league, and from having that guy in training camp.

This reminds me of last year when the plan was to draft a RB to help replace Murray. But they all seemed to go earlier than expected and when our turn came there were better options available. We even lost out on Rawls as an UDFA.

We wanted Goff, Wentz, Lynch, Cooper, Hackenberg, Brissett but the draft didn't go that way. That is why I would have been more aggressive in FA. We simply can't count on Moore.

I understand what you're saying... But in my mind he did compete against Weeden & Cassell and ran the offense better than either of them, and I'm not referring to yards he piled on the Commanders after they took a commanding lead. He simply made that offense look more like an "NFL" offense than either of the other two guy... Who both earned back-up jobs this season, which tells us everything we need to know about backup QB's.

What if he goes down Week 16 and we are 12-4? No top 5 pick in that case, just a wasted playoff team

Now? Not much. But there were guys in FA who weren't all that expensive. Matt Moore or Hoyer, maybe.

Myself, I'm way past Moore.

And watching Hoyer fall apart against a poor Bill's defense and then explode in the playoffs with a great WR like Hopkins... Just not a fan.

You mean those other 2 games when he had 1 TD 4 INTs and 19 QBR
