It began as a great day for Sean Lee. The middle linebacker intercepted a Philip Rivers pass and returned it 52 yards for a touchdown late in the first half. It was his eighth career interception, and his second career pick-six.
“It was one of those deals where we got some pressure and the ball came my way,” Lee said. “But we’ve got to do it in the second half. We can't play one half and not play well in the second half.”
But with 6:54 left in the game, tight end Antonio Gates beat Lee for a 56-yard touchdown that gave the Chargers a two-score lead.
“I think we read the route,” said Lee, who had 18 tackles. “It was just a good route by him, and he was able to stem it, got me caught up a little with my feet, and then gave a little nudge to get some separation to catch the ball and take it all the way.
“That’s one of those plays we can’t have to be a good football team.”
The Cowboys allowed 506 yards, including 401 passing yards.
