The Dallas Cowboys apparently aren’t going to go with the status quo after another 8-8 season.

The team has hired former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan as the offensive play caller, according to multiple reports.

He will replace offensive coordinator Bill Callahan as play-caller just one season after Callahan took over those duties from coach Jason Garrett.

The Cowboys were not ready to confirm the hiring Monday, but according to a team source, Linehan was set to join the staff after spending the day visiting the team’s facilities and taking part in meetings. A contract has not been finalized.

Despite reports to the contrary, Callahan, who is under contract for next season, will remain with the Cowboys, a source said. There were reports Monday that Callahan might become offensive coordinator under new Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine.

Linehan is a veteran offensive coordinator, play-caller and former St. Louis Rams head coach who has directed the league’s sixth-, third- and fifth-ranked offenses the past three seasons in Detroit.

He has been friends with Garrett since their days with the Miami Dolphins in 2005, when Garrett was the quarterbacks coach and Linehan was the offensive coordinator.
