DeMarcus Ware has averaged 13.9 sacks per season in eight seasons, but right shoulder and right elbow injuries limited him to only 11.5 last season. That ranked only ninth in the NFL last season.

Ware, 31, looks good as new after off-season shoulder surgery. Now in a new scheme, Ware was asked if he could threaten Michael Strahan's NFL single-season record of 22.5. Ware's career best is the 20 sacks he had in 2008.

"Oh, man, I think just getting pressure," said Ware, who had 33 pressures last season. "The main thing is how many pressures can you get, how effective can you be. We’ve been talking about turnovers the whole time. To me, it’s about getting the sack, but what about that fumble that comes with it and making those big plays and getting the offense back the ball."

Houston's J.J. Watt won the sack title with 20.5. Ware twice has led the NFL in sacks, becoming only the fifth defender to do that.

Asked if he could win the title back from Watt this season, Ware said, "You know what? He plays for Houston. I’m with the Dallas Cowboys. He does what he does."

Ware needs 3.5 sacks to break the Cowboys' recognized record for sacks in a season. Harvey Martin, who played most of his career before sacks became an official NFL statistic in 1982, had 114 sacks from 1973-83.
