Cowboys middle linebacker Sean Lee’s status as the consummate team leader and professional continues to shine in the face of another personal setback.
One day after suffering a possible season-ending knee injury on the first day of organized team activities, Lee was back at the Cowboys’ Valley Ranch training facility helping groom his likely replacements.
The Cowboys have made no official decision on Lee’s status. But, according to multiple sources, results from the magnetic resonance imaging exam confirm a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, sidelining him for the season.
After leaving the field cursing his situation on Tuesday, Lee was back as tutor on Wednesday, earning even more respect from his teammates and coaches.
“He’s just a very unselfish team guy. He’s everything you want in a young player and since Day 1,” tight end Jason Witten said “Just a pro in everything he does. Obviously he’s disappointed, but I think he understands the bigger concept of he’s able to put his ego aside and say, ‘Man, I can still help out.’ If anybody knows anything about Sean, it was a tough blow, but he’ll bounce back from this and be better because of it.”
Said coach Jason Garrett: That’s what he is all about. When he has been hurt in the past during the season when he has been on injured reserve we have meetings that start at 7:30 in the morning and he is there. He is there helping guys out. That is the approach he has always taken. Sean is a very special guy. He is a heck of a football player and there are a lot of reasons for that. A lot has to do with his athletic ability but also the approach that he takes to the game.”
