Dez Bryant gets so worked up for games, the Cowboys have to make sure he doesn’t peak emotionally at mid-week.
“You’re always talking to guys like Dez about managing yourself: ‘Don’t leave it all out here in pat-and-go,’ ” coach Jason Garrett said. “It’s not pacing yourself, but just understand your body, understand the demands of practice or the game coming up.”
The game coming up this week is the season opener. And sure enough, Bryant was keyed up Thursday, three days before the game, as he talked to reporters at his locker.
“I’m kind of amped up now,” he said. “I’m trying to watch my words, to be honest. I just love the game, man. Football is the greatest sport in the world to me. I’m so excited about this game. The feeling is crazy.”
Garrett said it’s a sign of maturity that Bryant understands that about himself now. Bryant is working on it.
“I remember last year, sometimes I used to go so hard before the game that I’m in a full sweat,” he said. “I know some of the coaches didn’t like that. I had to tone it down a little bit.”
