Morris Claiborne's dislocated shoulder won't get any better this season, and it likely will require surgery after the season.
For now, Claiborne is tolerating the pain. He is taking a pain-killing shot before games, wearing a harness and gritting his teeth.
"I don’t know about the surgery stuff just yet, but I know it’s going to be here throughout the season," Claiborne said. "I’ll probably be in the brace the whole season. ...I’ve just got to do it. I don’t think it’s going to be difficult. Just put it behind you and deal with the pain factor later on."
The Cowboys will try to manage Claiborne's practice reps and his snaps during a game. He played in nickel situations last week, with Orlando Scandrick starting and moving into the slot in the team's nickel packages. Claiborne played 37 of 67 plays. It was obvious at one point on an attempted tackle that Claiborne was in pain as he was slow to get up.
"At times when I bump it or I move it too quickly or in a bad position, it tends to hurt," Claiborne said. "But that’s some of the affects of it here in these couple weeks. I expect that. I’m just trying to work through it and continue to just try to get some good work here and there when I can."
Quarterbacks have targeted Claiborne 11 times, and he has allowed seven catches for 209 yards and a touchdown, according to STATS. He isn't likely to be at his best this season, with the harness hampering both his ability to tackle and his ability to defend.
