The Cowboys can't seemingly get healthy at cornerback.

The grand plan of Orlando Scandrick, Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr to be healthy and ready to go for the first time in two years was thwarted at the start of the season when Scandrick suffered hamstring strains to both legs in the opener against the New York Giants.

After limping through the second game against the Washington Commanders, Scandrick sat out the next four games.

He returned for the Green Bay Packers game last Sunday only to see Claiborne suffer a sports hernia that will keep him out 4-6 weeks.

"That's how it's been," Scandrick said. "Two years ago he tears his patella. Last year I tore my ACL. This year we think we going to get us all back then I had a setback that cost me a month. Now we get us all back together and he has deal."

It's a huge setback because Claiborne was playing the best football of his career and was arguably the team's second best defensive player behind linebacker Sean Lee.

We'll do well at corner. We got quality depth for the time in a long time. I'm worried about SS...Heath or JJ Wilcox? I honestly don't know.

Not immediately worried about the CBs. In fact, I'm interested to see how Scandrick plays with Brown. But, yeah, for the next 6 weeks we can't afford another CB injury.

I sort of like our S depth, too. Church is not so good that he creates a huge vacuum. Wilcox has played pretty well, and I like Heath a lot better than most anyway. Frazier might need to be ready, though. That's sort of scary. It's a good bet we only need to make it a month, though.

So Clarence Hill reports that Brown is "ready for nickel"...

He has been the nickel CB almost all season.

So Scandrick is staying in the slot in the nickel. Think that's the right call since we rely so much on that CB blitz and he times it pretty well.

It'll be interesting to see how Brown fares outside. Browns have some big physical WR's.

So does Mo have a sports hernia or not? I keep checking for confirmation but there is nothing except widespread assurance that he'll only be gone 4-6 weeks. Being back to even semi-normal, 4-6 weeks after a hernia repair isn't likely...actually it's dang near a fairy tale. So he either pulled a groin muscle or he has a hernia repair and is pretty much done for 8-12 weeks.

BTW, I'm not a learn'ed Doctor, but given the chance I could certainly act the part in the correct setting. I'm no gynecologist, but I'll take a look.

Now I see why Wentz didn't fumble on that hit, Oscan didn't get him on the arm

Yeah, you don't need to be a gyno to know that Mo will not be in football shape until January or beyond.:)

Garrett said they were still diagnosing his issue, but from what I read on twitter, they're trying to avoid surgery. Current outlook is rest and rehab.

Somebody needs practice on how to do a swipe sack. Lol. That ball was there like a loaf of bread. Now I see why Carson held on. Scan never touched the dang ball!?! Face palm.

Sports hernia's take time to recover from, with or without surgery.

Hopefully, that groin pull might recover and rehab relatively well.

In the meantime, we're fortunate to have Brown and Scandrick.

They're both highly capable of performing as well as need be.

The key here also in this secondary shuffle is for Jeff Heath to play well when given his chances. I would suppose that Byron Jones will be pressed into coverage more and more with Mo out (like was the case also during the GB game) and Heath being able to handle deep middle responsibilities will be crucial. Having both Mo and Church out rt at the same time is a blow but I think we can hold it down until the calvary comes. Fingers crossed.

I like you.

But anyway, I'm more than OK with Scandrick, Carr, & Brown. maybe with Brown & Scandrick switching between the slot and the outside in some situations, depending on Brown's comfortability outside.
