The 4.58 guesstimate has been proven to be false so many times it's probably not worth the effort to give the facts but here goes;

The only official times anyone has on Stanback are his college track times. He ran a 6.80 60 meters and 10.48 100 meters.

For comparision's sake, Newman's track times were 6.67 and 10.22.

We know that Newman ran a 4.37 40 yard dash. If one believed that Stanback's best 40 yard (36.57 meters) dash time was 4.58, one would also have to believe that Stanback is one of the fastest humans on the planet over meters 37 to 60 to get within .13 of Newman over 60 meters.

Most 40 times are bogus anyway. This has been demonstrated a billion times.

Track times mean far more than any 40 time, especially those done at campus workouts. Why? Track times are always accurate. There are no slow or fast trigger fingers (start or finish), no 38 yard downhill tracks designed to attract recruits, no other funny business. They're electronically timed on tracks that have to meet strict NCAA standards and run at meets open to the public. Unless they happen to be incredibly wind-aided, you can take those times to the bank.

And anyone can see that Stanback has great speed, especially for his size.

Of course, you could see that just by watching some film of him, too.

As said above, only a troll or two insist on that completely fabricated 4.58 being anything close to accurate.

Let me get this straight for my own benefit.

If Stanbeck ran a 4.58 or higher, he is too slow and will never be a good receiver. If Stanbeck ran 4.4 or less, it doesn't translate to the football field in pads so he will never be a good receiver.

Is that everything?

I'm pretty sure Stanback runs a 4.58. In fact, I insist that he does.

I'll admit... you're pretty good at knowing talent when you see it.

However, you would have to bow to the master, who actually knew who the best WR was coming into last year's draft.

Much better than Bowe.

Dude, that was in high school. Even LESS accurate than college times.....

Considering he never ran a 40 in college ... yeah, it's probably more accurate.

I once heard that Stanback's coaches had to use a sundial to time him on the 40.

But I'm pretty sure it was a complete moron that said that.

I think he was also all about Sidney Rice, too. (We'll never know if that was a good idea so long as Tavaris Jackson QBs the Vikes). So far this year, I've been pretty spot-on about who I thought the best players coming out of that draft would be. Of the people I thought we might have had a shot at (with possible trade-ups) they are all doing well in Willis, Lynch, and Bowe. I wanted to stay away from Jarrett and all I heard from Summer was how much better Meachem was than Bowe ;) - the only player who is doing better than I expected is Aaron Ross.

I disagree, I think Stanback runs the 40 in about 4.4, which is really good for a player of his size at 6-2 1/2 and about 215. You got to remember the coaches said that in practices that no one could cover him.

At same time, you got to remember best corner we have is newman, and he runs the 40 in about 4.34. Couchscout.com has him listed at 4.27, so I would put him at 4.34 to be real time.

on stanback www.couchscout.com has stanback listed at 86 STANBACK Isaiah 6- 3.0 195 4.55 406.98

and they had him listed at that due to his injured foot, so if you take off of that, you know and i know if any football sense, he couldnt run fully healthy till way into preseason, so his speed in 40 would be greater, so i would put stanback at 4.45 or somewhere near there.

That is about the speed of reported time now for T O, he is listed at 4.42 due to his age. Then, you add in his 100 meters at 10.48, that is really fast, so he is faster than 4.57. Julius Jones runs the 40 in 4.49, and I am hearing reports he is faster than that, so I would put him at 4.40 to 4.44 somewhere in that range. And again with his size at 6-3, 215, that is very impressive.

Sure, he wont be a calvin johnson, but if stanback can get at around 4.42 or so, he will have good speed in 40. Will he ever be a speed demon, no i am not saying that, but he can help us in deep coverage, got to remember miles austin runs the 40 in 19 AUSTIN Myles 6- 2.0 215 4.47 423.32

, and again reports are that stanback is faster than that, so stanback can be a pretty good wr, i would put him in the speed range of an alvin harper whom wasnt overly fast, but 4.49 in 40, and Harper burned dbs a bunch of times.

I love ridiculous arguments, but this one is too ridiculous even for me.

Arguing a guy's forty time until you're blue in the face won't make him faster or slower in real life.

I actually liked a few this year who are doing well. I really liked Willis, but thought there was no way we get him and I knew we wouldn't trade up enough to get him. I had hoped we might somehow swing a deal to move up for Peterson, but I didn't look for that to happen either. I did think it was more likely that Jerry would find a way to move up for him, than for any other player.

I also really liked Brandon Meriweather and Reggie Nelson at safety.

I did actually like Bowe more than any other WR... but I didn't really want us to draft him (or any WR) that much, so I can't take any credit there.

I also liked Spencer a lot and had hoped we'd get him somehow.

Like you, I didn't think Aaron Ross would be as good as he has been and I also didn't think Amobi Okoye would be playing as well as he is.

One other guy who I really liked is Ben Grubbs, who went to Baltimore in round 1. I'm not really sure how he's been playing, but I did like him a lot.

We drafted a QB..to learn how to play WR...who is now our slowest WR.

When we needed help at WR, CB, and NT.

So Stanback is slower than Hurd, and Crayton? I think its pretty safe to assume that only Terry Glenn is definitely faster than Stanback, and he is neck and neck with Austin and Owens.

oh and by the way, will you please s t ***?

I love when J.O.'s leave out important information to make lame arguments valid.

4TH ROUND......4TH ROUND! We drafted that college QB WHO also played WR to learn how to play WR on the pro level in the 4th ROUND.

You see, thats when you're supposed to make those type picks.
Projection picks assuming more risk with a bigger payoff.
