Vikings ready for Cowboys

The Vikings had a short practice as they began preparation for Sunday's playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. The players addressed the media afterward and it became abundantly clear that the Vikings realize the Cowboys have a nicer stadium.

"They’ve got to come to this hood," nose tackle Pat Williams said. "They’ve got to come to Zygihood. You’ve got Jerry World down there. Nice suburbs down there. We’ve got our old stadium in the hood down here. That’s all we got down here is Zygihood.”

Williams wasn't the only player who referred to Mall of America Field at the Metrodome as the "hood." It was all good-natured of course. Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe even referenced the Cowboys plush stadium when asked about the Cowboys momentum and how they've become a popular pick in the playoffs.
"That’s good," he said. "All the people in the bandwagon aren’t going to be on the field. We’re going to be on the field. They’re not going to be on the field. They’re coming to the hood. This ain’t all that high tech [stuff]. They’re coming to an old school stadium all right? Old school Vikings."

Asked how that translates on the field, Shiancoe said: " How does that translate? You’ll see."

This kind of banter is all part of playoff football of course. When it comes down to it, the Vikings know they face a tough challenge in the Cowboys, winners of four consecutive games.

"They’re a hot team right now," Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kevin Williams said. "They’ve been winning in December. Everybody has been giving them a hard time about that. They won a first playoff game that they haven’t won in a few years. They’ve got a good quarterback who’s playing great right now, a receiver that’s really stepped up this season and an outstanding tight end. And they’re defense is good. We’re going to have our hands full but honestly it’s nothing we can’t handle."

Said linebacker Ben Leber: "No matter what, even if they weren’t playing well, it’s the playoffs. You’re one and done. Lay it on the line and give it all you’ve got. Obviously they are playing well right so they will have a little momentum going in. But we have a lot of momentum going in as well."

Sounds like they think we soft.

Clearly since the Giants swept the Cowboys and the Vikings beat the Giants, there is no hope right....

I bet the Cowboys staff is more-ready.

The Cowboys staff knew last week that they'd be playing the Vikings if we won. The scouts who work a game ahead to prepare reports for the coaches only had the Vikings to look at.

The Vikings staff, OTOH, didn't know if they'd be playing the Cowboys, Cardinals, or Packers and would have had to work on each team.

It's the... 3rd seed advantage.

Add the fact that the coaching staff played the same team 2 weeks in a row. Not much game planning for the Eagles last week.

And the whistling past the graveyard begins. Thanks Pat Williams and Visanthe Shiancoe. We hear your nerves.

I'm guessing this game turns out like the last time we played Brett Favre.

Let's hope the Vikings play to the level of their stadium and we play to the level of ours.

A stadium reference within the first two sentences.

I like where this is headed already.

Oh and: And they’re defense is good. We’re going to have our hands full but honestly it’s nothing we can’t handle."

Come on, StarTribune editors....

I guess they didn't learn from McNabbs stupidity.
The 'hoopla' surrounding the Cowboys isn't the stadium, it's what they've been doing on the field the last 4 weeks, regardless of where it has been located.

I love how the Vikings are already starting the trash talk, using phrases like "right now" to describe Dallas' good play, as if it's some fluke that's come and about to go away.

I love how they describe our TE as "oustanding" just to later say that our defense is "good", as a clear passive agreesive attempt to minimize what it's doing on the field.

I love how they call our filed the "subburbs" and theirs "the hood" as if that makes them more powerful .

I love how they want to equate themselves to the Vikings of old, even though their defense can't hold a candle to the Purple People Eaters.

And most of all, I love how they feel the need to talk smack, much like the Eagles did, because like the Eagles, it's indicative of a worried team of players who understand their inferiority deep down in their hearts.

Yeah Vikings...if anything, you guys REALLY are the purple ***-hole eaters, and we'll come to your hood, and send Brett Favre back to the Green Bay suburbs where he came from - just like Dallas' defense ALWAYS does to him! If you want to meet any team of old, then welcome to new DOOMSDAY - 2009 Style! :D

Childress is a poor man's Andy Reid -- minus 400 pounds.

What have these guys ever won? Nothing. Keep whistling past the graveyard, fellas.

They lost the heart of their defense when Henderson went down and they haven't been the same since.

I really like the Cowboys' chances against them.

I also believe he developed a fase sense of bravado.
He had the great Brett Favre.
He was winning just about every game.

He pulls a power play trying to sit Favre.

Things will never be the same again. The STAR player showed he was more important than the coach.

Phillips has outcoached him before. That won't change.
