Here’s my mock draft, including Plan A and Plan B for each selection. Obviously, the first choice would be my preference:
Trade down to #21 and pick up a 4th rounder

1) Bobby Carpenter - OLB - Ohio State / Kamerion Wimbley - DE/OLB - Florida State - The Cowboys have little reliability at Outside Linebacker other than DeMarcus Ware and a solid playmaker on the opposite side would take Dallas’ defense to another level.

2b) Rodrique Wright - DT/DE - Texas - Trade away Greg Ellis for Detroit’s second-round pick and draft his replacement here. I feel Wright could be a quality 3-4 Defensive End and develop into a solid compliment to Marcus Spears. If Detroit isn’t interested, I would offer Ellis to any team interested as long as Wright was still on the board. If Wright is gone, all bets are off, and Ellis stays in Dallas.

2b) Davin Joseph - OG - Oklahoma / Charles Spencer - OG - Pittsburgh - I think Dallas' guard position is in need of young talent and either of these players add versatility and upside. I think Joseph could step in at LG for the Cowboys today, while Spencer has all the tools and continues to improve.

3) Jason Allen - S - Tennessee - His stock is plummeting after failed physicals, but I'd roll the dice on his potential here. If someone else takes the chance first, I'd look at Anthony Smith - S - Syracuse as Plan B. Smith lacks the great "numbers" but he’s a smart playmaker who lines up where he’s supposed to be and doesn’t give up the big play. Keith Davis’ contract makes drafting a FS less of a priority than it may have been.

4) Martin Nance - WR - Miami (Ohio) / Skyler Green- WR - LSU Two very different receivers, but either could help the Cowboys' depth, and Green could significantly improve the Cowboys’ return game - Brandon Marshall - WR - UCF could also be a possibility here if he’s still on the board.

5) Rashad Butler - OT - Miami / Joe Toledo - OT - Washington / Fred Matua - OG - USC / Chris Kuper OG - North Dakota - Offensive line needs to get younger and better and adding a developmental prospect here helps. Butler could develop into a quality Left Tackle in time, as could Toledo. Either Matua or Kuper could be groomed to replace Rivera.

6) Sir Henry Anderson - NT - Oregon State / Domata Peko - NT - Michigan State / Montavius Stanley - NT - Louisville - "Pepper" Johnson may prove to be a solid rotation guy, but then again, he may not. Regardless, a solid backup for Ferguson needs to emerge and some good candidates will be available here.

7) Josh Huston - K - Ohio State - Great kickoff guy with upside to develop into a solid NFL kicker / Steve Gostkowski - K - Memphis - Plan B. The Cowboys don't typically draft kickers, but I'd certainly make an exception here to get the guy they really want.

All opinions - pro or con - are welcome!

Not bad, I wouldn't have a problem with that...
I would love Carpenter, Joseph, and Allen. That would make my draft.
I would like Fifita though over the DTs you chose although I wouldn't be upset with the ones you chose.
No way Huston lasts til the 7th, he's a great kicker.
I like Travis Wilson or Greg Jennings better at WR and love Skyler Green as a KR.
Overall, I wouldn't have any heartaches with your draft.

I think it's a pretty good draft all in all, but it assumes, of course, being able to trade down several spots (which IMO is going to be difficult given where the value is . . . ).

I like the first 2 picks quite a bit. Another option at FS in the 3rd round could be Griffin or D. Manning. I would prefer either to A. Smith. I think Smith could last until the 4th round.

I was referring to Griffin/Manning as Option 2, by the way.

Agree.
I like Manning over Griffin and Smith.
Cedric Griffin for a corner shows promise at safety.
The guy has range and hits a ton!
My problem with the mock is Rod Wright in the second.
I am a long-time longhorn fan and this guy scares me as a draft prospect.
He under-achieves in my opinion.
There were some games where he was invisible.
Round two is way to early for a player like him.

I like the Carpenter/Joseph - But then I would go Jason Allen or Pat Watkins- and then Greg Jennings- Toledo, and Fifta.

!

ok, you want to trade Greg Ellis for the 40th pick overall, and draft one of the most underachieving players in the draft with the pick?

did Wright make a single play of note all last season? did he even show up for the USC game?

I wouldnt mind taking him in the 3rd rd (which is where I think he will go) but there is no way I'd take this guy at the top of the 2nd rd...

and as FYI, Chris Canty is a better player than Rod Wright, and so is Greg Ellis

I think Nance will be gone by the end of the 3rd round. Teams will note his height, size, and speed, but his intangibles are attractive too: enthusiastic and solid blocker; tough and willing to go over the middle; versatile as he can play slot or outside; and nice hands.
