Cornerback, Atlanta. Their fans are not happy with the guy at all. He has a habit of not playing the ball at all and trying to face guard the receiver.

I was wondering what his metrics look like for this season and how apparent it would be for us to go after him at will.

I thought FootballOutsiders.com tracked it, but I can't find a stat on their website.

*It is interesting to note that NFL.com started splitting up the stats for passes. They now show the distance thrown to the receiver and the YAC on every pass play on their play-by-play. If memory serves, in the old days the official stats were split up like that as well.

He's a good corner, don't listen to Atlanta fans. So when Roy doesn't do anything against him, don't think Roy sucks because of it. I mean he still sucks, but he won't do anything because Houston is a good corner.

This message is hidden because stilltheguru is on your ignore list.

I'm sure whatever you had to say was thoughtful, insightful, original, and strictly focused on the subject I put forth which isn't the reason at all that I put you on my ignore list.

Stat fiends should also take a look at Atlanta's other corner, Grimes.

Don't get me wrong, Atlanta has a good football team in the making, and their offense is pretty strong, but their defense has far too many holes to make it deep in the playoffs.

FO's YPA stats aren't available until the offseason.

Does it make people feel good to show that they put people on ignore? People take this internet thing way too seriously.

He's just a man cover corner. And even then he gives up a lot of catches because when the ball is in the air he looks lost, he can't find the ball and he's just reacting to what the receiver does. So instead of playing the ball he tries to get in the way of it or trying to knock it out of the receivers hands once it gets there. He's below average.

According to ProFootballFocus, he's having a pretty good season. Through the first four games he gave up 13/20(65%), 141 Yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT (64.8 QB rating).

He had a pretty good 2008 season, holding opponents' to a QB rating of 79.3, though he was targeted 93 times.

Which means he is better than newman too, then

Actually, Newman had a better opponent QB rating in 2008 and twice as many interceptions.

This year, Houston is outplaying Newman statistically, but over their careers, Newman is clearly the better player.

Maybe so, but at this point in their careers, you would take Houston over a declining Newman if the stats are similar

Hard to say. If I were convinced that he could play at his 2008 and 2009 level for many years, maybe, due to the age difference.

But Houston was downright terrible before 2008, so I'm not convinced that he's improved. Perhaps he has, but it would take a much closer look than just looking at the statistics.

I would take Scandrick and Jenkins over both of them at this point, however.

I would take our guys over Houston right now. I need to see a lot more before I'm willing to believe he'd be worth having.

If you put any stock in PFF's coverage grades, Houston has a negative grade (minus-1.1) and is ranked 97th among cornerbacks in coverage.

Where do you see that at NFL.com?

anybody who's not a top 5 CB just sucks. that's why the saints, vikings, and colts are so good, all the top 5 corners they have.
