Cowboys

Offense

Yards/game ranking: 3th (411.5)
Points/game ranking: 4th (27.9)

Defense

Yards/game ranking for fewest yards given up: 9th (332.9)
Points/game ranking for fewest points given up: 6th (17.5)

Conclusions:

Offense – The offense is efficient means we own the clock and are good at 3th downs and Red Zone. This offense can win championships! A top 5 offense is very good!!

Defense – Defense is getting better at 3th downs but still needs to get to QB better. The defense is good in the Red Zone but depends on offense to control the clock and not put them in defending a short field. Injuries are a problem. Still the weak link for a SB appearance.

I think the most impressive thing about this team isn't Dak or Prescott.

It's the fact that they just don't let teams score. I would have gladly taken a defense that was 12-14th in scoring and feared they'd be more in the 20s with no pass rush. But somehow, they are holding it together.

That being said, the flip side to this is that there is nothing more disappointing than Marinelli's prevent defense. LOL.

I heard this during the Cowboys broadcast on The Fan today.

Are the Cowboys the only NFL team to not allow a RB or a WR to gain over 100 yards in a game this season?

if only......
- our QB wasn't a bus driver
- we didn't waste our 4th overall pick on Zeke
- our #1 receiver didn't become lame after signing his big contract

Other than that, I love this team!!

Really like the direction of this team this season and going forward.

On offense I think the core is absolutely set. Dak and Zeke are rookies and our 3 star O-linemen are 25 years old. Those are by far the 5 most important guys on our offense.

Now, that doesn't mean there aren't question marks on offense. I think we'll be okay transitioning from Leary/Free to Collins/Green on the O-line, so the O-line should be good for a very long time barring something unforeseen.

Obviously Jason Witten is older and we'll need to find our next TE. Maybe we don't need to replace him with another elite TE. Maybe we can get by with a crew of TEs who are solid at blocking and receiving.

WR also has some question marks. Dez is demanding huge money but might not be worth his contract. I already said who the 5 most important players on our offense were and Dez wasn't included. That's not to say he isn't a great talent, but maybe we'd be better off not dumping a large part of our resources into one WR who might not even make one big play a game. Then there's the question of T. Will, Butler and who will be our #2 WR.

The truth is, we've been a very productive offense without relying on expensive elite talents. Witten is still doing his thing, Beasley is doing his thing, the O-line and the rookies are holding everything together. I think we should focus on building around those guys. And like I said earlier, I think we already have the guys on the roster who will make up our O-line for the next 5+ years.

Then there's the defense. There are a lot of question marks but there are also some young guys who might be important players for the years to come (Collins, Smith, Jones). We need to hope they're good enough to help us compete sooner than later. But I think we're headed in the right direction and could have a good young defense if we continue to draft well and not dump resources into players who don't earn their salaries.

We have to be favored in the NFC right now, even without a good pass rush.

There aren't any complete teams in the conference.

The true test of the defense will be when the offense has a clunker of a game and the defense has to hold the game together when its on the field for over 30 minutes.

The Eagles game was good enough proof for me..

It's a solid defense and compliments our offense.
