In 1971, Roger Staubach set team records for passer rating and yards per attempt that still stand 35 years later. That year, Staubach's rating was 104.8 and his yards per attempt was 8.92

In 1993, Troy Aikman completed 69.1% of his passes to set a new team record for a season.

Besides being two seasons that the Cowboys won the Super Bowl, what else do 1971 and 1993 have in common? With six games to play, the records set in both those years are being seriously threatened.

Tony Romo currently leads the NFL in yards per attempt at 8.94, has a rating of 100.0, and has completed 68.2% of his passes.

With games ahead against Detroit, Tampa Bay, and the Saints (all in the bottom third of the league's pass defenses) Romo's chances at getting at least one of these team records are quite good.

I think he'll probably get one, but not both. However it would be nice if he could.:)

There are actually three different records he's close to:

yards per pass attempt
8.92 Staubach 1971
(8.94 Romo 2006)

passer rating
104.8 Staubach 1971
(100.0 Romo 2006)

completion percentage
69.1% Aikman 1993
(68.2% Romo 2006)

There are other parallels between Romo's 2006 and Staubach's 1971. Roger didn't play that whole season. Landry switched back and forth between him and Craig Morton for the first seven games, even shuttling in the plays with the two QB's in one of those games. The Cowboys were 4-3.

In week 8 at halftime, Landry told Staubach that Morton would not play a down, and that the game was his to win or lose. That can't be too much different from what Parcells told Romo at halftime of the Giants game, except that the whole season would be Romo's to win or lose.

Staubach and the Cowboys won that game, and the next nine in a row until there weren't any more games to play. They were world champions.

oh sorry, I must of misread or miscounted {I can't count to three?:( } I think the completion percentage and yards per average, he has a good chance at, but I just don't think he'll get the QB rating, it seems like that would be a little harder to get and keep then the other two.
