Again, that's Stephen A. for you. He said "I'm not saying the Cowboys leaked the information, that would be irresponsible", that's his fallback; he does this crap all the time on First Take. This can't be your first time ever hearing Stephan A. speak?

There is a reason he said that, then said how odd it is while leading into the negotiations. He was saying that someone is attempting to force Dez into taking the lesser deal. I don't know how you can't hear that. Again, this is typical Stephen A., he had me fooled for about 7 minutes though, I'll give him that.

He seemed to take shots at some "reporters' at the end.

You're not reading between the lines. SAS is clearly intimating that the Cowboys front office is bringing these "off the field issues" to light at a very appropriate time for them. And frankly I agree with him. This "incident" happened nearly four years ago! You really think it's pure coincidence that this information comes out in the offseason during contract negotiations?

No I don't, but I didn't hear him say any thing most haven't said that aren't insisting the video exists. I'm neutral when it comes to Smith. I just didn't hear him blame any one other than who deserved it.

Jerry should just put this behind everyone and throw an offer at Dez tomorrow that he can't walk away from. Dez will play with a serious chip for at least a couple years because of this. And it would have a serious effect on how other FA players know JJ will stand behind his guys. Guys will actually think about taking less because of how loyal they know he will be to them...

So, am I reading this board correctly in that some of you believe the front office is behind the "leak" so they can get a favorable contract?

I believe some people believe that angle...

Our good friend Bob Sturm also floated that angle in a chat yesterday too.

He says it's reprehensible to use this against Dez with no evidence, insinuates Dallas may have leaked it and has no evidence to back that up, goes on about how they have low balled Dez and that a brother should get his money, then wraps up by saying he had no problem being suspended but was taken out of context and didn't do anything wrong. Up until now he would have dragged the Cowboys across the coals for throwing money at players, soon as they show a little caution he gets to take thinly veiled shots at them. All that was very self serving.

I'm not hearing it like you are. He kept saying that no one knows what went on. When he speaks about the offer made to Dez, I tend to agree with him.

I agree with you. I listened to the full radio podcast, and I didn't hear him accusing the Cowboys either. He talked about his own suspension from ESPN. He didn't have to do that. I think he addresses the issue of Cowboys "involvement" because, heck, we even raised the same thing on this board. It's a natural suspicion that needs to be addressed. And not only does he mention the Cowboys but he mentions Dez's agent and even Dez himself. He covers all his bases.

No, he didn't insinuate Dallas may have leaked it. He is addressing the theories behind who could have leaked it. But he's not owning it. He mentions it because that's what many people are wondering.

And, no, he didn't say he was taken out of context and didn't do anything wrong. He said he used the wrong word "provoked," and ESPN had every right to suspend him. He said that others have tried to take what he said and make it appear that he supports domestic violence.

And Stephen A. Smith is for players getting as much as they can. I don't see what's wrong with that, unless you're a Cowboys fan and want Dez to take a discount because you have the Cowboys interest more at heart than Dez's. But Dez wants to make his money. I don't have any problems with that either.

That's pretty much exactly how I heard him. Plus I really didn't know hoe low the offer to Dez was until he made the comparison to the other players. I really don't follow the numbers, but holly cow. I don't blame Dez for feeling insulted. I wouldn't pay him QB money but jerry needs to pony up.

Yes he did. Listen to it again.

That's what being taken out of context means. Big fan of his, I see.
